Thirty-six varsity soccer candidates reported to Coach Tom Dent in mid-September. Leading the returning veterans is Captain Jack Hall, twice named All-American fullback, who last year went all the way through to the finals of the Olympic tryouts. Other veterans reporting to Coach Dent include John Rice at right half, Bob Drawbaugh at outside left. Bob Addis who plays either inside right or inside left, Jim Pradilla at center forward and Gus Hullman at outside right.
Last year the Big Green booters tied with Yale for the New England championship, while at the same time Tom Dent was named Coach of the Year. This year Tom rates the team prospects as "good, but a lot will depend on the sophomore group." Heaviest loss to the team was that of Clint Chin, an inside right, whose playmaking was an important part of the Indians' showing in 1951.
Up from last year's undefeated frosh team are a number of good fullbacks and halfbacks and two fine goalie candidates in Herb Darling and Bill Cook. At this early date Tom Dent is not willing to identify the sophomores who might come along, but he definitely is counting on this group to plug a number of gaps in the lineup. If this replacement problem is solved satisfactorily, then his team will be a foe to reckon with this fall.
