Bill Gates, chairman of the January '23 Father and Son Dinner in Hanover, sends this report:

"At the dinner on January 23, we had 13 fathers and five guests, all members of the Class of '23 except Ralph Blanchard '27 who came with ShermBaldwin. We had a fine dinner in the Inn dining room and then adjourned to the Ski Hut, where Sherm Baldwin took over and carried on in the absence of Irish Flanigan, who was unable to be there because of illness. Sherm read several telegrams that we received from fathers who were unable to attend, and then introduced Pudge Neidlinger, who talked-very informally on the Dean's job. His talk was most enlightening as few of us realized the diversified problems which confront him every day. He did a swell job, and I'm sure the boys appreciated what he had to say. After he spoke, the meeting broke up into informal groups and we had a fine time with the boys. The party finally wound up about 12 o'clock when it was 14 below zero. Three members of our Class have two sons each in Hanover—Lou VanOrden,George Ferguson, and Bill Kimball, all of whom attended the dinner. The complete attendance record (except for sons) follows: Pudge Neidlinger, Sherm Baldwin, Lou VanOrden, RalphDuffy, Phil Segal, Bill Kimball, Swede Swenson,Rusty Sargent, Ralph 'Noble, Joe Pollard, RalphBlanchard, George Ferguson, Art Little, FredClark, Ken Way, Lou Putnam, Jack Cummings,Colin Stewart, Bill Gates."

Bill Gates' son took care of getting the accompanying picture to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE office, along with names of the '23 sons who attended.

And from Boston's Jim Broe comes this word of Class representation at the Boston Dartmouth Alumni Annual Dinner on Wednesday, February 4, at the Hotel Statler:

"The Class held open house in a reserved lounge in the Statler before the dinner. The following attended: Fred Bailey, Sherm Baldwin. RogBillings, Pinky Bixby, Carl 80-wen, Vic Barney,Jim Broe, Ted Caswell, Fred Clark, Sherm Clough,Ike Coulter, Ed Crowley, Frank Doten, FrankDowney, Ed Fairbanks, Nonnie Fay, Irish Flanigan, Walt Friend, George Fuller, Jack Griffin, LyHarding, Nat Harmon, Ed Hopkins, Herb Home,Sam Home, Stuie Knight, Bob McMillan, FrankMackedon, Halsey Mills, Len Morse, George Musk,Burt Prouty, Put Putnam, John Read, CharlieRice, Jules Rippel, Phil Segal, Mort Stern, HaroldStone-man, Win Temple, Herb Veit, Ralph Wilkinson, George Weston, Sam Yaffe, Ken Way. In addition, there were five paid reservations for '23's ' whom the storm kept from making an appearance."

A swell showing for .'23 and a swell report from Jim Broe!

As this is written, John Moore, chairman of '23 Get-Togethers at the Dartmouth Club in New York, reports two Dutch Treat evenings coming up—a stag affair on February 16, and a double-harness party on Paddy's Day Eve, March 16. The stag evenings never fail to turn out a good crowd; and the man-and-wife parties are running a close second. With 25th Reunion only three months away, the March 16 party offers a fine opportunity to refresh acquaintance with the couples who attended 15th and 20th Reunions, and who will be in Hanover again in June. So if you're anywhere near New York on March 16, take your wife to the Dartmouth Club for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Cap Palmer has temporarily deserted Hollywood for New York. We're hoping he'll stay long enough to attend both the February and March '23 evenings at the Club. Cap is author of two recent articles on educational films appearing in the Hollywood Quarterly. Both of them—Miracles Come C.O.D. and Cartoon inthe Classroom—-were published in 1947. A screen writer for many years, Cap has written both fiction and factual material for magazines, books, radio, as well as for films.

Brooks Palmer, as president of the Life Supervisors' Association, was on the committee for the January 27, meeting of the Life Underwriters' Association at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York, where Charlie Zimmerman was a featured speaker. Brooks says, "Charlie gave a magnificent talk. He was always a good speaker, but now he's tops!"

Pete Hurd recently resigned as vice-president and publisher of the American Druggist to become vice-president and director of the Federal Advertising Agency, Inc., also of New York. Federal's a good outfit and Pete's a good man, so it sounds like a winning combination.

As you probably know, the College sends a bulletin to Class Secretaries. And while you already know all or much of the story that follows, you set the record referred to in the January bulletin, so I think you'd like to read it as it appeared there

"The Class of '23 Went to Town. Last September 25, a 'Class of '23 Night' was observed throughout the country wherever two or more members of the class could get together. Preparations were started last year by Irish Flanigan and his far-flung corps of helpers The result was stupendous and gratifying, and challenging to other classes. The national celebration of a '23 Night was so successful that it may become an annual event. It is no accident that the class of '23 now (January) has on record in Hanover a total of $71,000 toward their 25th Reunion gift, the Class Memorial Fund to be established next June, but is the result of thorough organization and activity over the past several years. No crystal ball is required in foreseeing a great reunion by '23 next June .... and continuation of lively interest and participation in many other class and College activities."

To repeat, this is your record!

You will be shocked and saddened to hear o£ the deaths of two of our Classmates: DonMoore on February 2, 1948, in Wilmette, 111.; and Al Schryver in October, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wis. (Word of Al's death has just been belatedly received.) Obituaries will appear in a forthcoming issue of this MAGAZINE. If any of you who were intimate friends of these men will be kind enough to send me information on their activities since 1923, I will deeply appreciate it.
