Of the 92 men enrolled in our class, 72 graduated in 1886 and one received his degree later. There were 19 non-graduates. These figures disregard those in the Medical, Thayer and Agricultural schools, but do include the Chandler Scientific.
At this writing (March 8, 1948) eight of these are living. As men of adjacent classes often scan the notes for information of their college acquaintances, I submit the following brief mention of these eight survivors.
Harry B. Burley and wife live at 586 Newton St., Chestnut Hill, Mass. They spend as much time as possible at his boyhood farm in Epping, N. H. He is president and principal owner of the Boston Insulated Wire and Cable Cos. and goes to the plant every day.
Granville K. Howard, a widower, lives at the Howard Hotel in Bartlett, New Hampshire. He recently retired and sold both the hotel and the large general store which he operated there for many years.
William P. Kelly and wife live at 2650 Second Ave., North, St. Petersburg, Fla., between November 1 and May 1. Their summer home is at Greensboro, Vt. In 1934 retired after 48 years spent in teaching and educational administration.
James W. Newton and wife live at 456 East New England Ave., Winter Park, Fla., between Nov. 1 and May 1 and return to New England for the summer with headquarters at Springfield, Mass. He was the N. E. Mgr. of the Yawman-Erbe during most of his active career, retiring in 1931.
Edgar B. Philbrook, M. D. and wife live at 157 California St., Santa Cruz, California, where he had practised general medicine from 1901 until he retired in 1926. Previously he had engaged in private and institutional practise at other points on the western coast. He devotes much time to the study of birds and shells.
Allen P. Richmond, M. D. practised general medicine in Dover, N. H., for 42 years until his retirement in 1931 soon after the death of his wife. Since then he has lived with his daughter at 134 South St., Hingham, Mass. He has been quite active till recently.
Edward. H. Ross, M. D. lives with his wife at 9 Church St., St. Johnsbury, Vt., where he has practised medicine and surgery continuously for nearly 57 years until he retired in November, 1947. His health is now very poor.
Samuel Rose, widower, lives with his daughter at 60 Pierce St., Greenfield, Mass. After a long life as a minister in various Congregational parishes, he was compelled by failing health to retire in 1937. He is now a confirmed invalid.
