The deadline for this column falls soon after the Nones of March; the deadline for a myriad of tax returns falls on the Ides of March; yesterday I fell on my head on Cannon Mountain; and the net result of it all bears a remarkable similarity to one of Thomas De Quincey's dreams. So, if there appears in this column a replica of Form 1041, and if the Collector of Internal Revenue, Portsmouth, receives these notes, I hope all hands will forgive and forget.

George Payne recently checked in, for the first time, as he says, in ten years, but it has taken a momentous occasion to jar him into action at the typewriter (I wish some more of you people would follow his lead and get married):

"I am to be married to Peggy Constantine of Birmingham, Alabama, on March 14 (the Ides minus One, for those of you who are still using the Roman Calendar). Peggy graduated from Birmingham-Southern College .... a Phi Beta Kappa. She has a touch of New England in her veins however, for she attended the language school at Middlebury. She speaks French, Greek and Spanish (and, I trust, English) As for me, I went to Europe for four months after graduation, took a year of graduate work at Northwestern in marketing and market analysis, took a sales training course with the Jones & I.aughlin Steel Corp. in Pittsburgh for another year, spent another year with this company in their Chicago office. Then they sent me to the Steel Division of the War Production Board in D. C. for a few months. From December, 1941, to April, 1946, I was in the Raw Materials Section of the Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, progressing steel problems first as an assistant, then as head of the section I came out a Lt. Comdr am now with Nichols Wire & Aluminum Co, selling steel and aluminum products in western lowa, Nebraska and Kansas."

Orin Cook, whose base of operations is in Leominster, Mass., stopped in the office recently, while on an inspection tour of some saw mills which he operates in Hopkinton, Boscawen, Canterbury and Gilmanton, all good New Hampshire names. He reports that Dick Ferryman is doing medical research in Philadelphia and that he frequently sees PhilLeach, who is living in Attleboro.

Gerry TJllman, who has been assistant counsel to Senator Ives of New York, for the past year, has recently returned to the private practice of law in New York City.

Dan Marshall, rapidly becoming one of my best under-cover men, reports that Bob Jones is living on the North Shore of Chicago, has two children and is working for RCA; that Frank Davenport, restaurant impresario of Harrisburg, Pa., and wife Sue Black (who, according to Dan, never missed a Hanover party in four years) also have two young ones; that Herb Bayer is a dispenser of groceries in Tyrone, Pa. (no reason for any of us even to go hungry in Pennsylvania); and that EdShumaker, one-time aide to General Devers, is teaching at Culver Military Academy.

Annie Hosmer, out Syracuse way, reports that Margaret Elyseth was born on February 20, and that father Dave is in too much of a dither to write.

Ed Hibler was recently appointed editor of the Life Aetna-izer, publication of the Aetna Life and Affiliated Companies Fred Baker is with the Irving Trust Company at One Wall Street Smith Campbell is practicing law in Grand Coulee, Washington PhipSutherland is with the Tyson Bearing Corp. in Massillon, Ohio Dr. John P. J Johnny Uline checks in at St. Cloud, Minnesota, Alex Behr in Denver, Maj. MorrisKantzler in Miami, Roly Jones in Newton Lower Falls, Dutch Holland in Athol, Mass.

The Thome Production Company, of Hempstead, Long Island, recently circulated the following announcement:

"Notice: New Vice-President Elected. "At a meeting of the board on Dec. 24, 1947, at Flushing Hospital, Dr. Frederick Carpenter introduced Cameron Leland Thorne. After offering 8 lbs. 141/2 oz. for a share in the company he was immediately elected 2nd vice-president. "The new slate of officers reads: Bliss K. Thorne, President and Treasurer. Edna M. Thorne, Secretary and Production Manager Keith Van B. Thorne, Ist Vice-Pres. in charge of trouble and destruction Cameron L. Thorne, 2nd Vice-Pres. in charge of keeping others busy."

Johnny Rand, master-mind behind the scenes and Director of the Outing Club, was recently made an honorary member of the D.0.C., an honor which has been bestowed on few people.

That, my friends, is all for this time, and if you'll all excuse me now I'll get back to my opium pipe and tax returns. Don't forget to send your suggestions for nominations for class officers (secretary, treasurer, executive committee) to be elected in June to WrightMallory, chairman of the Nominating Committee, 753 Madison Avenue, New York, and your ideas for a Class War Memorial to BobReeve, 36-11 Bell Blvd., Bayside, New York. We want to take some definite action on the latter matter in June, so give it some serious thought.

And don't forget the date: June 18-20.
