SKIING ON THE SUMMIT OF ARAPAHOE BASIN'S NORWAY MOUNTAIN, one is distinctly conscious of the magnificence of our GREAT DIVIDE. Leisurely lunching on a "Last Friday" at the D.A.C., one feels the fellowship of this Dartmouth Club. Watching the Hockey Team battle for a national championship at the Broadmoor, excites an Indian as on a Dartmouth PEERADE of old. But it is the Annual Dinner that calls to mind the songs of Hovey and the chimes of Baker, and binds us each to Hanover as only a Dartmouth man can tell.
February was a big month in Denver. On the 26th, thirty-eight high school applicants gathered in the Trophy Room o£ the D.A.C. and stuffed themselves with sandwiches and cokes while watching movies of Hanover and browsing over catalogues, ALUMNI MAGAZINES and current copies of The Dartmouth. The next day some forty alumni saw the same movies during lunch: "Hanover, 1947" and "Ski Chase," the latter produced by DickDurrance '39 and Steve Bradley '39. Out-of-town guests were Gordon Avery '28 of Fort Collins; Tracy Kohl '19, one of Chicago's active alumni; Jake Carey '38 of Hutchinson, Kansas, former Hanover diving star and now in the mines of the Carey Salt Co,; and Dr. Howard Buchtell of the University of Toronto.
The new resident physician at St. Joseph's Hospital is Dr. Bill Scott '42. Will Nicholson 22, candidate for U. S. Senator, is Commander of the American Legion's Leyden-Chiles-Wickersham Post. Duke Carey '51 named chairman of the golf committee at the Denver Country Club. Bruce Carson '51 and BobCohen '51 led the Denver freshmen contingent in first semester grades. "Shorty" Pabst '38 has purchased a ranch hereabouts. PAPAS TAKE NOTE: Fred P. Carleton '18 is the father of John Carleton '50 and of Fred Jr., applicant for Class of 1952. Denver Post says RalphRickenbaugh '28 now skis by air. (We ain't seen him yet.)
