Liliane and Ron Lazar, moved by the death of their friends professors Half and Susanne Zantop, have spent the last year creating a memorial gift to the College in Susanne and Half's name. Obtaining the complete works of Nobel Laureate Elie Weisel (more than 50 volumes), some of which were out of print and some of which had to be sought out and imported from France, they secured the authors autographs on each of them. Presenting them to the Roth Center on April 25, it was the desire of Liliane and Ron that the books be placed on the Roth library shelves to be used by the students. Deemed too valuable to be stored on open shelves subject to climatic changes, the books were moved to the Rauner Special Collections Libraiy.Liliane and Ron are now securing a second set of Mr. Weisel's works, though without the autographs, which will be placed in the library of the Roth Center and be readily attainable by any student at any time.

From the White Cliffs of Dover to Canterbury and on to Bath and Stonehenge, and thence to Oxford, Lynne and Bill Friedman experienced one of those memorable journeys to which our memories fondly return as they traveled through jolly old England. They were led by their escort, daughter Katey, a junior at Hamilton College who is spending her junior year at Oxford. I'll bet they have some wonderful tales to tell.

Here's a bit of exciting news you probably won't find in our newsletter: Jonathan Goss '81, son of Lillian and of our esteemed newsletter editor Donald Goss, was recently named the outstanding economics teacher in the state of Idaho. Congratulations to Jonathan and his proud parents!

I was very pleased to see that Joseph Burbeck Sr., father of our Joe Burbeck, is finally being given his long-overdue credit for designing as well as building the beautiful Bethpage Black at Bethpage State Park on Long Island when he was employed as superintendent of the park. The pros have called it a difficult but honest course, one that rewards good play and is fair. It is the only public course ever honored as the home of the U.S. Open Golf tournament.

From Bob Malin comes the following report: "It's clear from the architects' designs that the 1953 Commons student center will prominently anchor the magnificent new north campus, made possible by Paul Paganucci's foresight and persistence years ago in creating an excellent outof-town location for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. Importantly financed by our Dartmouth class of 1953 charitable trust, 1953 Commons will unquestionably be a prime venue for student social life, assembly and activities, including dining, attracting not only those living in the three new residence halls to be built nearby but students from the entire campus."

Please turn to this site for more information which will appear in subsequent issues regarding our huge 50 th reunion. Until then, cheers!
