This column doffs its hat to those worthiesand there are quite a few of them—who have sent us squibs about themselves and other people for our archives and for publication some day. It so happens that the Editors of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE are hard pressed for space in the issue you are reading, and so we are holding back, to help them out. We cannot quite resist, however, the urge to give you the letter at hand from our friend Mayor Carbaugh, a portion of whose puss is pictorialized in the next column. So here it is:
"Dear Metz: My life has been an open book, uninteresting and hum-drum, except for a few excursions with such night-life adventurers as Aschenbach and Flanigan.
"After my rather sudden departure from Hanover I graduated from the University of Virginia with honors. (I like to use this expression as it is the only honor I received in the many colleges I attended.) I then practiced law in Kansas City, Mo. for several years until by accident, madvertence' or dumb good or bad luck I became entangled in the bank liquidation business. Since then I have bought and liquidated many closed banks with a variable degree of success, the vanance being dependent upon the debtor or creditor point of view.
"I have been married to the same girl ior zv years and now have a 14-year-old daughter in second year high school
"I reside at 17 Great Uak iJnve anon n.m, N. J., and I want to extend a most hearty invitation to all the boys to visit me when and if they may be in the vicinity of New York. I promise to fill the festive bowl to overflowing, to barbecue the fatted calf, and to provide ample antidotes for early morning dizziness. In fact, when we built our house we had an especially made door mat which reads 'COME IN '23.' To those who may be skeptical, the above statement was made with the full accord and agreement of Mrs. Carbaugh.
"It may be of passing interest to some to know that in my zeal to entertain one of our beloved classmates after the Dartmouth-Princeton game I fell and broke my collar bone. I don't know why, but this news always seems to bring forth loud guffaws of laughter when told. The only disability I probably will suffer is that in the future I will bend my elbow from the left instead of the right.
"Allow me to extend to you and through you to all the other boys a most Merry Christmas and a New Year that will bring you all the things you hope and desire for.
Sincerely, RED
"P.S. As to hobbies, I like craps, poker, bridge and stamp collecting."
