It was good fun at the January meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Baltimore. A most distinguished and very welcome guest appeared in the person of Andrew G. Truxal, formerly a Dartmouth professor but now president of Hood College at Frederick, Md. The round trip from Frederick to our Blackstone headquarters is 90 miles; so it can be observed that the Hood leader went quite a bit out of his way to join us. We discussed everything from the Great Issues course to the girls at Hood.
One of the most interesting aspects was President Truxal's proposal of a possible Baltimore-Hood College sponsorship of the Glee Club, not this spring but next. With both organizations heading for the same goal, we may be able to bring the Glee Club back to Baltimore for the first time in over a decade.
Next on our calendar, of course, was the annual February feature, "Ladies Night," a gathering to which all wives or friends of the fair sex are invited. This is always a swell affair at which the Blackstone usually is a little cramped because of the overflow crowd. If the function continues to grow, there's no telling where we might have to hold it.
Speaking of functions, one of the most rousing Dartmouth ceremonies on record is being planned for the night of April 27 when President Dickey is to address us. A committee is preparing arrangements for the function and is headed by Judd McCarthy '26, with GeorgeParkhurst '30, Dick Koester '43 and the writer as members.
This, according to the best available report, is the first time our club has played host to the President of Dartmouth College, in this or any former year. For most of us, in fact, it will be the initial meeting with the current president.
One final note about the rapid rate at which our family is expanding. On January 23, Ed Pierce III, all 81/2 pounds of him, was born to our president and his pretty wife Marie. Congratulations to all concerned.
