It is being whispered all over town that the regular monthly LUNCHEON, Friday, February 25, was a very exclusive private affair. Those present just won't talk and those who missed it can't find out what took place. It is rumored the attendance was limited to- By Matteson '03, Fred Long '11, Bob More '13, Ev Parker '16, Zack Jordan '20, Jerry Wood '24, Norrie Williamson '26, Rick Rickenbaugh '28, Ned Grant '31, Thad Smith '31, Eddie Toothaker '32, Cal Fisher '32, Bill Evans '33, Bob Williamson '34, Bill Geraghty '37, Don McKinlay '37, Dick Shaw '39, Doc Wheelock '40, Chap Cranmer '40, Orm Birkland '43., Cy Allen '45, and undergraduate Casey McKibben's handsome father.
Prexy Bill Grant '31 and Prue being on an Eastern trip to New York, Vice Prexy JohnMcDonough '28 being busy promoting the silver standard at home and Entertainment Committee Chairman Ed Small '41 being on his first honeymoon there were only Secretaries and Treasurers to officer the affair without benefit of dancing girls.
It has leaked out, however, that the Trustees had previously met and appointed the COMMITTEES, chairmen of which are as follows: Entertainment, and Luncheon Ed Small '41; Finance, Orm Birkland '43; Publicity, FredCarleton '18; Vocational, Bob Welborn '40; Squaws, Alice Toothaker; Admissions, BobMore '13 and Sub committee heads: Interviewing and Scholarship, Fred Long '11; Educational, Gil McDowell '46; Schools, Cal Fisher '32; Entertainment, Don Campbell '45. DonMcKinlay '37 will serve as Secretary of the Admissions Committee. As most of the committees last year served only four months, their membership was continued practically intact for another year. Bob Williamson '34, of the Luncheon Committee, heads up the same efficient staff of Bell Ringers with Bob More '13 takin- over his group of fathers.
GOSSIP has it that Charley Gearhart '28 has been transferred after only slightly a year here in charge of the New York Life Agency to Washington, D. C., and that Bob March '47 has moved to Delaware. Our loss of these loyal members is offset by the advent of JoeKeckeisen Jr. '46 from Chicago who has now taken up the privilege of living in Colorado.
FLASH. Larry Jump '36 took oft his skis long enough to become the father (along with wife, Marnie) of a little Jump born February 17. This son's first name will not be "Ski"! And also on the subject of skiing, Denver's adopted daughter Sally Neidlinger is reported at Sun Valley, practicing for important ski meets ahead at Sun Valley, Idaho; Whitefish, Montana; and Aspen, Colorado. Good Luck, Sally!
VISITORS during February include: ScottTaylor '39, Thermopolis, Wyoming swimming pool operator and political big wig, DickWeiner '40 of Winnetka, 111., who sells farm equipment, and Jake Carey '38 of the Hutchinson Kansas Salt Careys, all of whom were attending a two weeks Naval course on Economic Mobilization. Other visitors were Jim North 32 San Francisco sugar beet tycoon, BillHeroy '37. Dallas seismographer, and CharlieFrench '24 whose train was detoured via Denver enroute from his Cleveland home to Sun Valley for skiing. And Jack Devlin '37 of hockey and soccer fame, now comptroller of Armor Bronze & Silver Company in Massachusetts, missed his plane after a bull session with the Geraghtys and McKinlays. It couldn't have been all talk!
The DAILY PRESS records two outstanding honors: Art Rydstrom '29 was appointed chairman of the Special Gifts division for the Denver Red Cross; Dr. James Cullyford '30 was decorated February 15 with the "order of Orange Nassau" on behalf of Queen Wilhelmina by the Netherlands government. Dr. Cullyford, now chief of medical services for the Veterans Administration in Colorado, served as public health officer of the Twelfth Army group following D-day. The award recognized his unselfish service in the medical care and evacuation of Netherlands political prisoners from the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dachau. A third honor worthy of notice in the press is the election of Bob More '13 as Vice President of the Colorado Forestry and Horticultural Association.
THE U. S. MAIL also tells us that DickShaw '39 has moved his offices for the "general" practice of law to the First National Bank Building and that Docs Cal Fisher '32 and Bill Condon '29 knocked off for a week for a trip to Cleveland, presumably business and that sort of stuff. Denver's health was precarious during their absence but we're safe again with their return.
We acknowledge with appreciation the GIFT of addressograph plates to the Association by Wilbur Bradford '35 of Bradford Robinson (printing) Cos.
