Paul F. Marx—Somehow organizer of this dinner aided and abetted by Mort Berkowitz. Thirty-six were supposed to be on deck but 27 managed to make the chow line. A mighty fine gathering, in fact so successful that immediate action was taken on the next dinner to be held May 9 same place, same time (Dartmouth Club, N.Y.C.). Personal note .... "beginning to 'sell' Fords. As a matter of fact sold a select '37 Ford to Bud Bogert not many weeks ago. Bud has just moved into his own house in Tenafly, and is very busy keeping the rain from visiting the living room and planning improvements all along the line. CarlNoyes with wife and young son dropped in one Saturday (Tenafly Motors Inc.) for service on his new dream car (Ford). He has the right car and comes to the right place for service.

"Ten days ago I took a day off and travelled to Toms River and Beachwood, N. J. Dropped in on Chick Hotaling for the afternoon and an early supper. He has a boat yard full of boats, buildings and boards, on the banks of the Toms River. "What is more he is Mayor of Beachwood, N. J., Road Commissioner of same Borough, and Commodore of the Beachwood Yacht Club. Besides Margaret, the lady of the household, there are three lively young gents and one young lady to keep things a-popping around his house. Alan the oldest is 11 and Jay 4 the youngest. In between comes Lee around 6 and Penny 9. Chick reports that he visited Alan Sutter this past fall. Alan is Lt. Col. Sutter of the U.S. Marines, at present at Cherry Point, N. C. From the following clipping snipped from the Feb. sth edition of the As buryPark Evening Press it would appear that Mayor Hotaling may be hitting for State Senator next stop.

."BEACHWOOD—The board of commissioners last night introduced the boro's 1949 budget as a crowd of 100 persons filled the community building and heard Mayor Charles Hotaling reveal that the amount required to be raised for local purposes would be decreased this year by $2.50 for each 51,000 of valuation.

Mayor Hotaling declared the local purpose tax is the only part of the budget the board regulates. " was brought out the 1949 rate could not be revealed since the county and school tax rates have not been etermined. The 1948 rate was $71.90.

The mayor told the gathering that the rate in the last 10 years has increased $2.50. He said this is an increase of only 8% and is 'good considering the many improvements we have.' Mayor Hotaling reminded that the boro owns the community building, a library, bathing beach, boardwalk, boat arbor, first-aid and fire department, fire alarm system and a water system which brings in revenue.

The audience applauded the mayor, when after reports of many community organizations were given, he asked if the reports should be made at the annual budget meeting.

"Mayor Hotaling reported the Athletic club plans to rebuild the athletic field and construct floodlights."

Abe Winslow was thoughtful enough to clip and mail this item from the San FranciscoChronicle:

"Mrs. Arthur J. Cohen Jr. has been named chairman of the San Francisco committee of Sarah Lawrence College alumnae supporting the college's annual fund drive."

Which can also be used as a reminder our own tubs are thumping for a bigger and better contribution to the Alumni Fund this year. Why not contribute early and help the Committee in more ways than one?
