We have been scanning a booklet which gives the addresses of all Alumni Officers, a listing published each year. As we went through it, we put a check mark by the name of each officer listed who boasted the numerals '37 after his name. We were surprised to count nineteen check marks in addition to our own si x class officers. A few of these are repeaters, men whose names appear more than once; like Jim Humphrey, who is listed as a member of the Alumni Council, the Council's Committee on Enrollment and Admissions, as well as president of the Montana Alumni Association. Or like Bill Heroy, who is not only a member of the Alumni Council from Region VI (the Southwest), but also serves on the National Enrollment Committee as the Texas representative. By the way, Bill is just starting a three-months session of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Other '37ers who are serving on the Enrollment Committee are Al Coggeshall - North Carolina, Vin Turecamo - Long Island, and John Handrahan - South Shore, Mass.
We have quite a sizable group actively involved in various alumni clubs around the country. Our book lists only presidents and secretaries, but we know that a lot more are serving in other capacities. Those whose names we have are as follows: John Wright, Secretary, Louisville, Ky.; Sey Ochsner, President, New, Orleans, La,; Bill Tallberg, President, Melrose, Mass.; Bob Woodruff, Secretary, St. Louis, Mo.; Harry Hencage, President, Keene, N. H.; Al Reinman, President, Youngstown, Ohio; Carl Erdman, President, Reading, Penna.; Paul Olson, Secretary, Brattleboro, Vt.; Bob Miskimon, President, Richmond, Va.
Still more names pop up in this directory. For example, we find Carl Ray as a member of the Athletic Council, and Bill Rotch, serving on the Advisory Board of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Speaking of Mr. Rotch, we have been reading reprints of three articles which Bill wrote and published recently describing a week's visit to Western Labrador, made at the invitation of and in company with HartyBeardsley, now president of Twin Falls Power Corp. This concern is building a large hydroelectric station in the wilderness where the "Unknown River" drops precipitously through a series of gorges known as Twin Falls. Knowing Harty's love for the north country, he must be happy in his new occupation.
The next time you pick up Newsweek magazine remember that Ed Davis is one of the top men who make it possible. Ed has recently been promoted to the important post of Vice President and General Manager, and in his new position is responsible for many aspects of the magazine's complex operations. With Newsweek since 1946, he is now in charge of the magazine's circulation, production, traffic, fulfillment, purchasing, personnel and office service departments. The Davises, Ed and Dorothy, have two fine sons, Frank Edgar, 13, and Geoffrey Campbell, 9.
We have two short news items to report. The first concerns Fran Gray, who has resigned as industrial agent for the Boston and Maine, to accept the position of manager of the Business Development Department of the Binghamton, N. Y., Chamber of Commerce. The second concerns Dave Hall who has left the A. W. Ellis Company, with whom he was associated for the past nine years, to become an account executive with the Harry M. Frost Company in Boston.
Finally, we have a newspaper clipping describing a television appearance of Vin Dahlfred, assistant industrial director of the New Hampshire Planning and Development Commission, a position Vin has held for the last eight years or so. His subject, "Industry for Your Town," covered the role played by the Commission in attracting new industry to the Granite State.
This completes our carefully nurtured store of news items. We hope for a flood of letters from you before next month's deadline rolls around.
