Richard Rendell '28, staff member of Station WMAL, Washington, was named chief of the Far Eastern news staff of the American Broadcasting Company in August. He now maintains headquarters in Tokyo and coordinates the coverage of events by three ABC correspondents.

While with WMAL, Rendell covered the Greek civil war and the Berlin Airlift on a European trip in 1948. It was at his suggestion that Congress authorized a medal for "Humane Action" for those who participated in the airlift operations.

Rendell formerly was chief of the Washington bureau of the ChicagoSun-Times, and served on the staffs of the Associated Press and Newsweek magazine in their capital offices before he joined WMAL.
