A once-rare history of the environs of Dartmouth's most sacred mountain is now for sale. Published in 1870 by William Little of the Dartmouth class of 1859, the History of Warren numbered just 600 copies in its first printing. Most of them crumbled, victims of time and acidic paper

Now, a hundred years after Little's death, the Warren Historical Society has republished this priceless treasure of local history. Highlights include tales of the Penobscot Indians, who worshiped a great mountain-dwelling spirit; and the short life of Moosilauke's summit hotel.

One of the most striking early reviews of this second edition came to us recently: "If I had but one book in my library, this would be it." The review was signed Thomas Benton, M.D.
