Saturday, June 24, saw some 80 Philadelphia Dartmouth men, their wives and girls picnicking at beautiful Valley Forge Farm, the home of Jim Tindie '36. Most of us hit the swimming pool on arrival, which was fortunate; because from about 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. the heavens opened and gave us the works: rain by the bucketsful, plenty of lightning and crashing thunder. But that didn't stop the doughty braves from Hanover and their worthy squaws. By some means, chubber Phil Shepard '48, a DOC graduate, kept the charcoal fires burning and the wieners cooking; and the weather didn't seem to affect the goodness of the beer nor the amount of it consumed. Bill Cook '49 had thoughtfully brought along an armful of lacrosse rackets with which the fellows and girls soon engaged in a peppery scrimmage in the pouring rain. That was just as enthusiastically followed by a red-hot series of volley-ball games which continued until the sun shone again; and then back to the swimming pool. Activities chairman, Charley Henry '34 and his two helpers, "Buck" Mansfield '44 and Bill Rutherford '40, did a wonderful job of organization and assuring that all present got plenty to eat and had a swell time.

Captain "Bud" Jopson '45 reports that the Philadelphia Dartmouth Club team had a lot of fun participating in the Inter-Club Softball league this summer, and is looking forward to coming out on top next year. Our team won three and dropped six; but a couple of the losses were good, tight, close ones. RodWalser '45 and Stew Young 'SO did most of the pitching for our club; Johnny Miller '45 was a titan behind the plate; Pete Salom '39, DaveWard '39, Jack Young '47, Bob Craig, '47, PatMann '46, Lou Young '41, Bill Olmstead '38, Jim Tindle '36, Bob Bach '47, Paul Erwin '49, and Billy West 'SO were all active members.

On Friday evening, October 13, a pre-Penn game rally will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia for all Dartmouth rooters, male and female.

Don't forget the Dartmouth Glee Club concert in Philadelphia on April 2, 1951. Mark it on your calendar now!
