The Philadelphia Association held an informal reception tor prospective students on Wednesday evening, January 24. Eddie Chamberlain '36, recently appointed Executive Officer of the College, was the main speaker of the evening, and gave those present a splendid description of the world situation and its implications, particularly as they pertain to young men hoping to enter college. Mr. Chamberlain also presented an unusually lucid explanation of what the liberal arts college is, where Dartmouth fits into the picture, and what Dartmouth expects of the men she admits. A vigorous and interesting question period followed the talk. The two newly produced motion pictures, My First Week at Dartmouth and Dartmouth Outdoors, were shown; the two pictures being separated by an intermission snack of sandwiches, cokes and coffee.
Club President Parker Soule '31 officiated at the proceedings, and introduced EddieChamberlain. Approximately 135 men attended the reception; consisting of about 75 prospective students, 30 fathers and 30 alumni.
We were saddened to learn of the sudden death of Arthur B. Jopson '17 on January 26. Art had long been one of the most active members of the Philadelphia Association, as well as an ardent, all-around Dartmouth supporter.
The secretary apologizes for the error he made in the January issue when he credited only one Philadelphia Dartmouth with attendance at last fall's Dartmouth-Princeton game. This misstatement justifiably met with vociferous protest from several other hearties who braved the elements.
Have you sent your reservations for the Glee Club Concert on April 2? It will be held at The Philadelphia Cricket Club, and will be followed by a dance, with a live orchestra. John Flanagan '28 is handling the details for the overnight accommodation of the 50 Glee Club members, and we earnestly ask any of the Philadelphia members, who are able to entertain a couple of the boys, to cooperate with John.
We still gather for luncheon at 1223 Locust St., every Monday at noon. Join us there as often as possible.
Secretary, 5643 Pine St., Philadelphia 43, Pa.
