If these notes seem unusually disarranged, it is merely further evidence of the general situation and state of mind of your Secretary. The fact of the matter is that I completely gave up the law business for three weeks (having given only sparse attention to it for some time before that) to go into the show business, —but unfortunately with no remuneration for the time and effort involved. The event was "Ice Chips of 1949," the 37th annual ice revue of The Skating Club of Boston. The place was the Boston Garden on March 25, 26 and 27. The stars of the show included Barbara Ann Scott and the leading amateur skaters of this country. Even the newspaper commen- tators agreed with me that the show was a great success. But only I fully appreciate the loss of sleep and nervous exhaustion involved when a lawyer is bold enough to think that he can break into the show business.
During the latter part of February it was a case of "When East meets West" in Chicago. Bud French from New York City and ChuckFaye from San Francisco both attended a convention in Chicago of the fruit and vegetable merchants, but took time off from those arduous duties to have cocktails and dinner with Bob McClory, Hank Embree, Micky Emrich and Fred TJhlemann At the last meeting of the Law Club of Chicago Jack Moore of the fen of Kirkland, Fleming, Green, Martin and Ellis and Bob McClory of the firm of Daily, ines, White & Fiedler were initiated as two of three new members. It is understood that when Jack's sponsors sang their introduction of Jack to the meeting, Jack responded in song Bob Bruce, with a background of 16 years of experience with General Electric in radio and, more recently, television, spoke during January at the Syracuse University Sales Forum as a General Electric television respresentative on the subject of "the selling opportunities in television."
Editor Charlie Widmayer left Hanover in late March for a fortnight's swing of an alumni circuit which included Syracuse, Rochester, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis and Columbus. We haven't yet received his report on Thirtyteers in those sections Burt Sherwood, who is Director of Employee Benefit Plans for National Life In- surance Company of Montpelier, and a chartered life underwriter, was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Eastern Maine Life Underwriters Association in Bangor on March 24.
On February 15 Jim Cully ford, now Chief of Medical Services for the Veterans Administration in Colorado, and living in Denver, was decorated by the Netherlands Government with the "Order of Orange Nassau" for the exceptional part he played, as Public Health Officer with the Twelfth Army Group in Europe, in the medical care and evacuation of Netherlands political prisoners from such notorious concentration camps as Buchenwald and Dachau Ted Childs, Superintendent of the Brockton Hospital, was elected Secretary of the New England Hospital Assembly held in Boston on March 30 Jack Herrick not only became the father of twins, a boy and a girl, on December 15, but at about the same time was elected to the Advisory Committee of the Board of Directors of Sports Products, Inc., the manufacturing division of such well-known sporting products as carry the labels of MacGregor and Goldsmith. Jack is in charge of engineering and research as well as manufacturing control of Sport Products, Inc. Notwithstanding business and home ties, Agnes and Jack are arranging their summer plans so as to include an Eastern trip and reunion in Hanover this June.
