The Dartmouth Club of Berkshire County met in Pittsfield October 20, Dartmouth Night, at the Berkshire Restaurant. Forty, including guests, were present.
Robert Young '35, president of the Club, presided. Our guest speaker was Roger Brown '45, of the College Secretary's staff. He did a fine job presenting the background of Dartmouth Night and brought forcefully to our attention the problems of the College today, particularly the great need of additional scholarship funds to meet the needs of worthy men who for the lack of scholarship aid cannot afford to come to Dartmouth. Roger was accompanied to Pittsfield by his bride and some of the Dartmouth wives graciously entertained her at dinner and a Canasta foursome.
Our guests for this occasion were representatives from each of the colleges with whom we played football this fall: Holy Cross, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Lehigh, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell and Princeton. This gesture of good fellowship and good sportsmanship was a unique experience to many of our guests, who thoroughly enjoyed the party and were loud in their praise of the Outing Club movie "Dartmouth Out of Doors."
The record with the greetings from President Dickey, Tuss and Captain Staley, and music by the Glee Club added greatly to the pleasure of all. It was a bang-up party and a toast was drunk to Dartmouth in which our guests heartily joined.
Two of our oldest members passed away during the year: Dr. John Thames '94 and Edward Badger '03, leaving the Secretary of the Club, Johnson '04, the oldest living alumnus in the county.
