The lacrosse team enjoyed the most abbreviated spring trip of any group (except the track team which sent only a couple of men to the North Carolina Relays). Coach Dent's racket wielders confined their journey to Manhasset, Long Island, where they met the club team there which is composed of former college players (including four from Dartmouth). This encounter was won by the Green by the score of 8-7, with Hammy Gates and Haviland Smith leading the scoring with 3 goals apiece. The attack this year will be spearheaded by Hammy Gates, who is one of the ablest and most colorful players in this rugged form of competition to appear in recent years. In his senior year on the varsity, Hammy should have his biggest scoring season.
The defense is led by the stalwart trio of Captain Walt Fisher, Pat Brewster, and Bill Balderston, with Jerry Block in the nets. The massive Walt Fisher is a tower of strength both literally and figuratively and he is flanked by two three-year veterans. The defense positions will thus be very well taken care of indeed. If Coach Tom Dent can develop one or two more offensive operatives- to supplement the scoring work of Hammy Gates and Haviland Smith, this might be another great year for this traditionally Indian sport at the college which Eleazar Wheelock established for the education of same.

After losing its first three races by fairly close margins, the Dartmouth crew surprised Coach Jim Smith and everyone else by defeating Tampa, unofficial Southern champ, which had beaten all the Green's other opponents as well as B.U. from the north. The Dartmouth junior varsity crew won three of its four races.
