We have slowly been digging ourselves out of a whiz-bang snowstorm here in New York —the biggest ever they say—and then a sleet storm followed throwing the suburbs for a loop by depriving a number of residents of light and heat. The Hanover winter has nothing on the Big Town this year, except that in Hanover the snow stays cleaner a heck of a lot longer.
Roy Rowan is back home again after about a year-and-a-half in China with UNRA. From what I can gather, Roy was in charge of UNRA transport and headquartered in Shanghai. He blossomed forth as rather a famous character a few weeks ago. Remember that impressive though gruesome photograph Life published a short while ago showing row on row of skulls set against a hillside in China? Well, Roy took that on one of his many jaunts to the interior.
A recent article in a Covington, Kentucky, paper indicates Frank Simpson, besides working for Multi-Color Type Company, is also in the thick, of Cincinnati city politics having been declared a candidate for election as a Charter councilman. He had previously been named to the steering committee of the Mayor's committee to expedite housing.
"Mort" McCinley has left Baltimore and is now settled in Tahawus, New York, with Winston Brothers Co., titanium miners, and reportedly the first titanium mine in this country. Mort is enjoying himself playing basketball with the local town team, doing a bit of glee club work, taking a few correspondence courses, teaching an adult French class, and to top all that off his engagement was announced on December 14, to Miss Sally Duffield of Grosse Point Farms, Michigan.
On the day after Christmas in Far Hills, New Jersey, Pete Glenn's engagement was announced to Miss Patricia Cutting. Pete is living in New York and is with Temperly Haslehurst Company.
With two engagement announcements we should have a wedding to report—and that we do, as "Doc" Spillane and Betty Jane Hawkins were married in Philadelphia, on December 20. They are now living at 3723 Spring Garden Street, in Philadelphia, and "Doc" is at the University of Pennsylvania in the Graduate School of Medicine.
Bob Frondorf is now settled in Manila with wife Joan and new-born son, John Robert. Bob is with the Far Eastern division of the Interchemical Company.
Bob Darbee is keeping plenty busy what with working in a Brooklyn law office by day, and attending law school by night.
John Twist is now in Memphis. JasonWoodward has recently settled in Lexington, Mass. Ed Laskey owns his own laundry now in Haverhill, Mass., and speaking of laundries, I understand Bob McWilliam has the Bendix self-service laundry in Hanover.
John McCuiston is now in Detroit—working in the General Motors Building, and calling home, Apartment 22 at 14010 Monica. There is another recruit for your small but ever increasing Detroit contingent, John Bowers.
I hear by the grapevine that Dick Potter is a new father. What is it, Dick, a boy or girl?
