It is not the intention of this bumbling scrivener to open each mensal discourse with a sweeping bow towards Hanover, as towards Mecca. It so happens, though, that we wandered into town one Saturday a while ago and, being informed by that sage of the northern section of the east side of Main Street—the proprietor of Mac's (where the steak sandwiches are not only delicious, but nutritious-adv.)—that the Dartmouths and the Syracusans were about to tangle, we sat in on the festivities. By such a devious route do we get to report on what looked like the finest Hanover riot since Charlie Meeks lost his hat in an attempt to silence the revolutionary mouthings of Whip Walser.

Part of the Syracuse delegation consisted of a student group in air force uniforms and these warriors decided to parade around the field during the intermission. As they passed the concrete stands, there seemed to arise an antipathy to either (1) the baby-blue uniforms, or (2) the scurrilous banners being flaunted by the delegation, and soon there was a more or less general mingling of the green and the orange.

Hoarse shouts rent the air, hundreds of fists flailed madly, and the shrill whistles of the combined police departments of Hanover, Etna, Cornish and East Thetford clamored for attention. From an extremely safe vantage point, it looked as if murder was on at least a wholesale basis, but miraculously enough, everything soon quieted down and the only casualty was a little old lady in Section 4 who was unfortunate enough to be the inadvertent target of a pigeon who became over-excited by the strange doings on Memorial Field.

Other HANOVER VISITORS during Oc- tober included Dr. and Mrs. C. LawrenceHolt, of Falmouth Foreside, Me., Mr. and Mrs.Robert Corwin, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mr.and Mrs. A. C. Hine, of West Hartford, Conn.

In the VITAL STATISTICS this month, we find that other members of this energetic class who have not stood still are Dick Gruen, who fathered a son William Hardie on Au- gust 17.. .. Mayo Cohen, who likewise records a son Norman Allen born February 25 ...

and Bill Ramsey, who from far-off Omaha in one fell swoop evens the score, genetically, with twin girls, Carol and Julie, born August 25. While giving credit where credit is due, it might be well to add that, needless to say, these gentlemen were to some extent dependent upon the co-operation of their respective wives in these momentous events. MEN OF DISTINCTION this month.

George Ham, whom we caught up with a couple of months ago in Chicago, is now at the medical school of the University of North Carolina as full professor and head of the department of psychiatry.... With an assist to Ed Offutt, intrepid class agent of '35, we find that Clyde Seney has been admitted to partnership in Booz, Allen and Hamilton, management consultants. With this firm since 1944, Clyde will continue to make his headquarters in the New York office.... And in case any of us stray off the parkways and forget to decelerate, the brethren is hereby informed that as of July 1, Governor Lodge of Connecticut appointed as judge of the City and Police court of Willimantic one I. MayoCohen.

From the address changes this month, a few interesting items crop up, for instance. .. . Ray Snow was located last month at Camp Edwards, but the telephone company, which doesn't like to have its managers collect too much junk in the attic, seems to have whipped him up to Littleton, N. H. ... RoilyWilson, for many years, except for wartime, listed in the environs of Columbus, 0., is now located in Coronado, Calif... . Jim Bayles, who has had an extensive career in the FBI, Federal Trade Commission, Social Security Board and the Post Office Department, is now following his trade as an attorney with the Veterans Administration in Washington ... and Hafey Arthur comes in from deep right field to be recorded in an executive capacity with the Boston Varnish Company, of Everett, Mass. In this capacity the experience garnered in extensive chemical experiments with his playmates on West Wheelock Street during prohibition days should stand him in good stead.

About now begins the season dear to the heart of ye sec, when at regular intervals in the mail, he can expect a bulging envelope from Jack Gilbert which proves not only that many stout fellows have paid their class dues, but that they have had the happy thought of sending along a few well chosen words on the reverse side of the bill (the space is empty, you might as well use it). The first shipment we will have to put over to next month, but in the transmittal letter, Jack has a couple of timely items.

Seems that Tom Hicks was around Beantown about the time of the Harvard game and dropped in on Okey O'Keefe. And although it is distasteful to use that horrid word twice in the same paragraph, HankRigby was also involved with Harvard, probably in their advanced management course, not long ago and spent some time over on that side of the river where the a's are long and the haircuts short.

This is the month when, in spite of a truncated column, all of us have a chance to get into the act. Last year, in the callow exuberance of the fledgling sec., we set up a final paragraph which looked a little bedraggled when they tacked on the list of contributors in Hanover, but this year, thanks to the efforts of Copp's Copious Collectors, and to you fellows, we without any hesitation respectfully refer you to the list of some 400odd men of distinction which follows.
