The annual election of officers resulted in an outstanding group, consisting of Joe Logan '42, president; Ed Spiegel '42, vice president; Norm Scott '35, secretary; and Gerry Peterson '43, treasurer.
The summer picnic took place, as usual, at the home of Earl Poe '42 on Mason Road. Earl's swimming pool provided a welcome respite from the St. Louis steam heat, and a large group was there. This function has become largely a family affair, with children predominating. With the 1942 Class Notes, the host is shown in an accompanying photograph conversing earnestly with Carl Holekamp '42. The club is greatly indebted to the Poes for a very fine time.
A "Big Splash Party" was arranged for the evening of September 1 at the Webster Groves swimming pool, but at the last moment the hot weather subsided temporarily and caused a cancellation. Instead of a swim, the program was switched to Dartmouth films. Mead Metcalf '54, a superior man with the camera, showed a number of excellent slides portraying Dartmouth life and scenery during his four years at Hanover, to the great delight of all in attendance. Following the pictures, we were very cordially entertained by our good friend Jack Merrill '30 in the yard of his home in Webster Groves. A group of about forty members and wives attended.
We are very sorry to lose the company of Dick Hayes '34, our worthy ex-president. Dick is with Merck & Co., Inc., and has been transferred to Rahway, N. J. We wish him the greatest success in his new location.
For some time past, the weekly club luncheon has been at the China Doll, 815 Washington Avenue. The name has now been changed to Ding Ho (meaning "very good"). We continue to hold forth there every Thursday, and are always glad to have more in attendance.
