Midwinter in Rhode Island and another ALUMNI MAGAZINE deadline rolls around. My smattering of news isn't too abundant this time, but I have several choice tidbits. Also have several repeats which I'll only briefly mention.... the wedding of Bill Ballard of New York City to the former Miss Naomi Jane Parker of Berwick, Pa., took place in the latter town October 28 with Art Wallace as best man and Johnny Sweetland and GeneKelly (both ex-roomies of Bill's) as ushers. Another repeat is the wedding of "Pete"Bloodsworth of Caldwell, N. J., to the former Miss Virginia L. Smith of Glen Ridge, N. J., October 14. And still another is the engagement of Art Wallace and Miss Betty McCormack both of Milton, Mass.
News items of the month along the matrimonial path include Dave Kinney of Pawtucket, R. 1., to the former Miss Margaret Joanne Wilson of Hanover which took place in Hanover on December 16. The Kinneys were to honeymoon to Bermuda and then to live in Barrington, R. I. Incidentally the young couple stopped off at the Hanover Inn on the second night of their marriage. Another hitching of the month is that of Dave Kimball of Yonkers, N. Y., and Contoocook, N. H., to the former Miss Doris Mildred Rockwell of Yonkers and Stony Brook, L. I. One of Dave's ushers was Bob Reineke. The Kimballs will live in Bayside, Long Island. Still another wedding comes via a letter from Beta-brother Bert Rodman, ex of Dorchester, Mass., who announces that he and the former Sue Marcus of Dorchester took that fatal step on the 12 th of November (not the lxth as I guessed last month). Bert sounded none the worse for wear after only 50 days of his new life, and he was composed enough to be able to advance the information that he is another insurance broker, working primarily with the Aetna Casualty Cos., in Boston and likes it a lot. Bert's one guy who's sure to make good in whatever he enters. The Rodmans are living at 72 Peterborough St., Boston for all you letter-writers. Bert says he just missed me at the Copley the night of the Harvard game, hears I am fatter than ever, but claims he's still sleek and smooth as always.... that "as always" carries a lot of weight.... pretty good pun, huh????
Three engagements of the month, two of which I dug out of Sunday's paper .... one in the Providence Journal announces the engagement of Ernest R. Beattie of Medford, Mass., to Miss Dorothy Elaine Ball of Edgewood, R. I another in the New YorkTimes announces the news of Guy AnthonyBusch of Highland Park, N. J., to Miss Priscilla Adams Piper of New York City and Dorset, Vt the other announcement was through a letter from Jug Edwards ("Bob" to those who don't recognize the "Jug") of Haverhill, Mass., which says Miss Elsa Koehler of New Rochelle, N. Y„ caught up with him way back last spring. Jug is at present finishing up at Penn Military College in Chester, Pa.
Got a wonderful Christmas letter and gift pen from Rank Lashmet out in Chicago. Rank has a swell job with RCA Victor, is working too hard, but loves it. There's a long article in the November 28 issue of the Retailing Daily, their trade paper, about his work which is fundamentally sales-promotion and advertising. Rank has run across Dana"Deke" Jackson in business. Dana sells space for a Sports Service Group and was in to RCA to sell space for the All-Star Game Program .... who should he call on?? .... Rank, of course Rank says, "Needless to say, we then went out and hoisted several tall cool ones." Rank also attended a party (BLAST) at Bill Mackey's house in Detroit the night before the Michigan game, and had seen DickO'Riley in Lake Forest, Ill., many times up to two months ag0.... Dick is on Uncle Sam's select list and was last known to be hanging on the edge.
Letter from Terry Maphis from Paris where he's attending the Sorbonne. Says Paris is great and the Folies Bergeres is all they say it is.
Dick Moulton was twice again a Hanover Inn visitor—November 29-30 and December 12-13. He oughtta move in for good up there soon.
Charlie Dodge is with the Allen Organ Co. of Allentown, Pa., selling their electronic organs and has his headquarters in Cleveland. One of their large instruments was installed recently in the new Park Synagogue in Cleveland Heights, and Charlie played two organ concerts there during the week of the dedication exercises December 8-16.

Harv and JaneNolan (not Sgt. as I erroneously reported), John Sweetland, Surnrny Arneson, PommyThomson, Brud Becker, Jug Edwards, EdGraham, Mike McGean and Peter New On several of these were messages .... for instance, Ed Graham's card was a picture of a gob, and he says, "Don't leap at Conclusions. I'm on inactive Duty 'till July. However full uniform has been issued and I'm sitting on the edge of my sea-bag waiting." TommyThomson announces his own engagement to Miss Margie Coates and says they expect to marry in May.... he graduates from the University of Maryland this February. TomSwartz says to be sure not to call him "Tommy" ever again—he's getting a terrific riding back home. Chet Palmer says he spent the summer of '49 in Wisconsin Summer School, starting after his masters in History this past summer in Univ. of Illinois and meanwhile teaches 7th and Bth grades in Lyme, N. H. school. He says he's also principal of the school—a real wheel it looks like from here. He says it isn't as imposing as it sounds, especially financially. Herb Gramstorff is "still fighting the battle of Hartford" back with Uncle Sam, although his reserve commission finally came through, so he can soon expect movement. He says Bob Alden is still in Kentucky training.
Talked to one of Harv Nolan's in-laws the other day, and they told me that he is now on 30-day leave following his Marine training before shipment to California. He saw plenty of action back in World War II.
