The Boston Alumni Association suffered a great loss in the death of its President, Roger B. Salinger, Class of 1927, on Saturday, April 12, 1958. Roger, who had assumed the presidency only two months before, had been active in furthering the interests of the College to the very end, having talked to members of the Executive Committee the evening before his death about Association activities and the Capital Gifts Campaign. His loss was a great shock to all who knew him and admired his friendly personality and quiet effectiveness. By vote of the Executive Committee, the following memorial was spread on the Association's records and a copy sent to Roger's widow:
Roger B. Salinger, Class of 1927, President of this Association at his untimely passing, served the College, his class and this Association with ability and loyalty throughout his adult life. For many years he has been Alumni Fund Agent for his class. As Vice President of this Association for three years, his friendliness and warmth of personality overflowed on all who came in contact with him, enabling him to make outstanding contributions to its well being. His enthusiasm for the interests of the College and of this Association was exceeded by none. His unfortunate death, shortly after he had assumed the leader-ship of the Association, prevented the fulfillment of great promise. Roger's life was one on which the College may justly look with great pride.
To fill the vacancy caused by Roger's death, E. Morton Jennings Jr. '28, senior Vice President, was elected by the Executive Committee to the presidency. Wilbur W.Bullen '22 was elected a vice president to succeed Mort.
At this writing, plans are in full swing for the annual "Open House" for prospective freshmen and their parents to be held Sunday, May 11, at the University Club. Professor Herbert R. Sensenig '28, professor of German and adviser to foreign students at the College, will give a talk. A short film of Hanover life will be shown, and it is hoped that a recent graduate will also give a short talk.
