In line with the current trend toward guest columns, your Secretary-in-fact-though-not-in-title for this month is Jack Warwick. As a matter of fact, if it hadn't been for a thoughtful note from Jack, your column for this month would have consisted of the masthead and the signature. Apparently I'll have to give up my work and start gallivanting around the country (which might be a little hard on the family), do more telephoning (which would make this an all-New York column), write more letters (which I never have time to do), or just simply rely on press clippings that come to me occasionally from the Alumni Office. It looks as though '31 is the most modest class that ever graduated from Hanover ... nobody wants to talk about himself.

Tell you what I'm gonna do. I'll write each of you a letter sometime during the span of the next year if you'll do the same. If we can ever get a system like that rolling, this monthly column might take on the semblance of interesting reading.

Anyhow ... thanks to Jack, here's some news about some of the gang: A NEWSY LETTER

"Dear Doug: For a long time I have intended to report on my encounters with classmates and now I am further prompted to do so because I know you need all the material for your monthly column that you can possibly get. Some of this may not be dated as it should be, because it covers a long span of time. Nevertheless here goes:

"Bob Waggner. On one visit to Hanover we ran into Bob and his family. Two grown daughters were in evidence and Bob looked more prosperous than ever.

"Forrie Norris. Visited Forrie at his home in Mount Vernon, N. H., and discovered that he is in charge of appraisals for the veterans in the State of New Hampshire. His wife Harriet was at Abbot Academy with my wife so we had a lot of reminiscing to do. His children are very young because Norris' have not been married for very long. Maybe that's the way to keep parents youthful In any event their home is very attractive and they are indeed a happy family.

"Wes Dingman. Being in Hanover with our children for the Ski School a few weeks ago, we ran into Wes and his wife in the lobby of the Hanover Inn. His son is a freshman at Dartmouth and Wes was not sure about claiming to have the first son of a '31er as an undergraduate at Dartmouth. Maybe you can clear up the record.

"Went Eldredge. On the same visit to Hanover we braved a snowstorm to get to the top of the highest hill in Norwich and see the professor's new home which was well worth the effort With his charming British bride, Went has one of the most startling modern homes in the Hanover area We later dined with the Eldredges at the Inn and had the privilege of rehashing old times as well as guessing into the future—especially as it affects Dartmouth.

"Bill Alton. Looking just as trim as ever, Billy is still associated with the Rockefeller interests and is most active at the Present time in conjunction with IBEC. If you want to know more about what mat means, I'm sure Bill will be happy to tell you. From whath I gather, it's an organization concerned chiefly with the development of new businesses in south America.

Courtney Anderson. From Los Angeles, Court wrote me and told me something about the biography he is writing on one Adoniram Judson, the first American foreign missionary. I am sure that ren US forward to its publication.

Rex Fall On the letterhead of the BerkshireEvening Eagle out of Pittsfield, Mass., I have been invited to share some of the clear Berkshire air' which I presume is not to be confused with whatever form of air is used on the Eagle. I am sure that the invitation is extended to all '31ers.

"Dick reports that Midge enjoyed seeing Nini at their 20th Reunion at Abbot Academy He says that on the same day they all had a wonderful feed at Shep Wolff's new home in Wayland

Bill Grant. Visiting in Steamboat Springs, Colo., this summer where my daughter was at Perry-Mansfield Camp, lo and behold, the little Grant girls were also there, so Bill and his family and my family had time to get together also in Denver when we were on our way back East. Bill is one of Denver's more illustrious barristers and from other quarters I learned that he is also one of its more astute politicians.

"Jack Schackne. Living up in Bronxville I see Jack from time to time since his nephew is an active pal of my son Douglas they are both in school together at Riverdale. Jack is still in public relations work in New York and apparently doing very very well.

"Hope this proves helpful to you. Doug, and perhaps I can get off another bulletin one of these days, when and if my travels develop some more contacts with '31ers."
