Greetings from the Amazon rainforest; formerly known as Vienna, Virginia. I write this in June, and it's been raining here just about every day since I last wrote this column. Big pain rescheduling all the soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse games (fortunately, beerpong is played indoors). And although the lawns are nice and green, its impossible to cut them when they're wet, so they take on the character of U.S. Open rough. My philosophy is that I'm OK as long as my grass is shorter than my neighbor s is. Anyway, here's what you've been doing.

Former co-scribe Chip Debelius sends word that Mark Horton received an award at the National AIA Convention in San Diego. The award was in recognition of his firms excellent design for a new dormitory at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Congratulations, Mark! Chip also notes that he will be in Helsinki in late July at an international conference presenting his research on the work of Russian Constructivist painter and architect Lazar Lissitzky. His paper is titled "El-Lissitzky, Irrational Space and the Proun Studies." There are times when words fail me. This is one of those times. So, I'll lapse into phonetic Russian: "Ochen haddashaw, Chip!"

News arrived that Mary Beth Gose was chosen by the Scarsdale Village, New York, Citizens Nominating Committee and elected to the town board of trustees. Among other activities, MaryBeth was treasurer of the Town and Village Civic Club, co-chairman of its education committee and is secretary of the League of Women Voters of Westchester. Also, Gose graduated from Chicago Business School. She was VP in the industrial banking department and a consultant at Merrill Lynch. Mary Beth is married to Firman Leung (Tu'85). The couple has two sons, 8 and 12.

Dave Nemiah has been appointed to the new position of director of brand research and strategy at Brand Logic, a Wilton, Connecticut-based brand consulting and design firm. The Fairfield resident will direct brand strategy development and research across Brand Logics identity, new media, investor communications and marketing collateral practice areas. Before Brand Logic, Skeeter was director of brand research (do I detect a pattern, here?) for Interbrand. Dave has a masters in communication from Boston U and has a wife and two children. Kudos, Skeets!

On the legal front, Jeff Levinger handles state and federal appeals and complex litigation for Carrington, Coleman, Sloman, and Blumenthall. (Note to Jeff: Your firms name nearly exceeded my Notes word count quota. One word: acronym!) Levi received his J.D. from UVA (see Jeff?) and has 20 years of experience covering complex litigation. Additionally Jeff chairs the civil appellate law advisory committee for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, belongs to the American Law Institute and serves on a drafting committee for the Texas Pattern Jury Charges. On the pro bono side Jeff has provided 13 years of court-appointed representation to a Texas death row inmate. Jeff is married and resides in Dallas.

On a '79 marketing note, check out the new section of our Class Web page at http://happy.dartmouth.org/classes/79/ devoted to "Tell us where your kids are going to college." There you can tell us if you are on the faculty, administration or have a child that is attending an institution, and would be willing to share information about the institution. It is our hope that this page will facilitate numerous '79 and junior '79 minireunions in the future. Also at the site, check out the 25th reunion June 17-20, 2004, survey.

Keep'em coming!
