Well, sir, everything was goin' jes fine until a couple of weeks after Christmas and then we jes threw sevens all over the rug. We didn't need any damn groundhog to tell us it was or was not a rough winter it was! Seems first the older boy was bound and determined there was plenty room on that little sled for five kids, him being number five, and the sled was just as bound and determined there wasn't. Result? Sled won. Bounced our kid's bean often a rock. Doc says concussion so the older one hits the sack. Next in order comes boy number two, but first, for this record, we got a rule everybody wears their slippers, especially when they got on their bear feet. Soooo. Boy two is all alone in the living room defending himself in a beautiful running gun-fight, no slippers, no brains, not lookin'. Result? Chair won. Doc says toe is busted so boy two hits the sack gotta be often the foot for six weeks. Next the old man himself comes down with trouble. Doc says "pernicious infiltration of the nosetricular cavity" and yours truly hits the sack. Kay's fine, but believe me it's getting so I tip my hat when I pass a doctor on the street.
First tip of the hat goes to Dr. Sey Ochsner whose letter comes on stationery labeled OCHSNER CLINIC which brings up a bit of a mystery as Sey isn't the Ochsner but he doesn't say what the relationship might be. He gives us this history:
"Received M.D. from Univ. of Penn, interned at Johnston-Willis Hosp., Richmond, Va. Two years in chest diseases at Stony Wold in the Adirondacks and now studying X-ray, as a Fellow in Radiology at the aforementioned clinic. Also considered as a student in the graduate school at Tulane. Have two daughters and a third child on the way. New Orleans is really deep south and quite a change for an old Hanoverite. For awhile I'll have to work quite vigorously, and our housing situation is not adequate, but if any of my old classmates come through here it would be nice to have them look me up."
Gradually it seems the class is workingdown that list of "eligible bachelors" and thelatest one to commit marriage is highly personable hold-out Ed Sterns. On January 27 inHartford, Conn., to Margaret Keeney. Congratulations from us all.
Gi St. Clair wrestled himself away from that new TV set to set down a few facts. Except for two early years with the NY Trust Co. he has been associated with the drug business, the S. B. Penick Co. Gi has had about every job in the place and now is secretary. Actually, says he, his work finds him in charge of manufactured sales to the pharmaceutical industry. He also gave a list of the stuff his company makes but it sounds like a night in an iron lung. Probably Hinman would be the only one who would recognize the names and he's not here. Everything remaining equal he will have a freshman of his own in Hanover in just seven years (What about you, Ed Sterns?)
Seems the Eldred Xmas card showed up this year from some address in Indiana so we investigated. Last we heard it was Bemis Bags in Alabama. Comes news and a picture (see cut). Apparently Cal was transferred on a temporary basis to the Strongwall Mills, Inc., Cannelton, Ind., to effect a bit of textile engineering work. After the work is completed there he is not sure where he might go but both he and Fessy are staunch New Engenders and he is tired of having people say "Dartmouth? where the hell is that?" They are not too far from Evansville or Louisville for any who might be headed that way.
We keep harping about these changes as aresult of recall to the services. They happenfast but so far there has not been any greatnumber. Bob Woodruff is back in and has thisto say:
"Your letter asking late dope on this person arrived in good time at the Pentagon, where I currently serve my country. To backtrack a bit I believe the last item on my personal dossier had me working for Dupont in their Advtsg. Dept. I left them late in '48 to become Associate Editor of the News-Journal newspapers in Wilmington, Del. Last spring we bought a farm in New Castle, address RFD #2, Newark, Del. I had been associated with a naval reserve unit locally and was notified in October that my presence was requested in uniform. So my presentest address is Navy Press Section, Office of the Secretary of Defense. Rm 2E757, The Pentagon, Washington. Being an absentee squire is no fun but do manage to get home once in a while. Don't know how long this duty will last, it could be an overseas call any time. Until donning the blue and gold I had been seeing considerable of classmates Joslin and Dingle being as both are Duponters. Anyone who gets to the Pentagon on temporary or permanent duty will get personal guide service and luncheon companionship." Thank you Lt. Woodruff and good luck.
On Thursday, Nov. 23, there appeared an editorial in The Milford Cabinet written by its managing editor, Bill Rotch, to the effect that the old wooden building they had occupied as a newspaper and printing business for more than half a century was about to be abandoned in favor of more roomy quarters furnished by a recently modernized (by Textron) building in the same town of Milford, N. H. So Bill has been busy moving as it was scheduled for after Christmas. Anyone now looking for him in town will have to inquire for the new address which is only known as the Old Brick School.
