Dartmouth 9, Middlebury I. Dartmouth won its first home match of the season on Hilton Field by overwhelming the visiting aggregation from Middlebury by the score of 9-1. Playing at No. 1 for Dartmouth, the massive Duke Carey, Dartmouth captain, won his match with ease, 6 and 5. Howie Bissell, playing in the No. 2 spot, lost the only match of the day for the Green, when he dropped a tight one on the 18th hole. Dartmouth's Ed Eichler and Chief Cornish, playing No. g and 4 respectively, both won their individual matches, a feat which was equalled by Southworth and Fast of the Green. Playing in the seventh position, Dick Barsanti won his match by the topheavy margin of 7 and 6. In the best ball competition, Carey and Bissell won 2 and 1; Eichler and Cornish did likewise by the score of 5 and 3; and the third twosome, Southworth and Fast, came through by 2 and 1.

Brown 51/9, Dartmouth 41/%. Playing over their home course, the Brown golfers inflicted a narrow defeat on Coach Tom Keane's warriors, thereby breaking a three-match winning streak of the Dartmouth mashie experts. In the first match of the day, Captain Duke Carey lost by the margin of 2 and 1, a distance which was shortened even more in the No. 2 match, when Howie Bissell lost 1 down. Carey and Bissell then lost the best ball by 1 down in the closest match of the day. The team thus entered the second foursome with a 3-0 deficit, after which Ed Eichler then won both his match and the best ball, leaving the match at 4-2, in favor of Brown. Dartmouth's Southworth fired a sensational 73, thereby winning both his match and the best ball for his foursome, while his mate Phil Fast was absorbing a beating from the Brownie. With the score 5-4 in favor of Brown, Bob Stiles of Dartmouth sank a 20-foot put on the 18th hole to tie his match, after which the Brown coach gallantly refused a play-off hole. This meant that the teams split the points and Brown won the match.

GREEN CREW WINNING ON THE CONNECTICUT: Green Key Weekend in Hanover was successful for Dartmouth's varsity rowers when they defeated Amherst and Brown. Left, the Indians return to their home float after their winning sprint over the Henley distance; and right, they are shown nearing the finish line two lengths ahead of Brown. This was the only home appearance for the Dartmouth crew which had a spring schedule of seven varsity races.
