It never ceases to amaze us when another year has rolled around. They seem so darned short, these days. But the fact remains that this issue of this MAGAZINE marks the close of our third year as a columnist for the Class; a year which we must admit to having enjoyed immensely.

While sounding this personal note, we might add that your correspondent, who for the same three years has been retired from active business affairs, has just recently taken on a job with the Air Force Materiel Command, at the Mid-Central Air Procurement District, Chicago. He is a civilian, engaged in the same sort of activity which occupied his attention, in uniform, at Wright Field, during a portion of War Two. He and his good wife Bunny will continue to be at home to any and all '23s who find themselves in or around Chicago and wanting to say howdy. We hope lots of you will take us up on this deal.

Pete Hurd, formerly vice-president and a director of Federal Advertising Agency, has been named advertising director of Puckthe Comic Weekly.

Charley Zimmerman has been named to the board of overseers of Tuck School.

We learn that Frank Downey's son Frank Jr. has been accepted at Dartmouth, and that he will follow in his father's footsteps and become a medico.

Vince Rogers continues as principal of Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, N. H., on the shores of Lake Winnepesaukee. Vince has been head man at Brewster, a 64-year-old institution, since 1942.

It seems that in some past column we didn't do right by Phil Bowker, and this slip-up has prompted that stalwart to send us the following, to straighten us out: "DEAR TRUMAN: Your local gestapo does not seem to function too well. Thus I am forced against my better judgment to elucidate on events in my later years. Of course I realize that New England is away off in one corner of the U. S. and is at times a most difficult jungle to get around in. So I don't blame your snoopers too much for getting loused up this way.... Sure, I have been messing around with the local GOPers about 28 years, and believe me it is about time for that pension to come through. My old titles include: Selectman, Planning Board, State Rep., Metropolitan District Commissioner, State Senator. Right now, in addition to being Senator I am Chairman of the state Commission to Curb Communism. What an assignment! Been threatened, harrassed, etc., but lots of action.

"Spent nine weeks in Europe last summer with the wife, who was born in Norway. Went with her to Stavanger, her birthplace, and then we visited Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen and London. Wrote a dozen articles for the Boston Traveler on the 'Man in the street' in Scandinavia. Was chased by commie spies in Stockholm, and on our return was given the assignment to head the official state group to curb their underground efforts in this area. Lots of fun but lots of work. I am sales agent for The Automatic Voting Machine Corp. for New England, and have sold automatic voting machines to over a score of Massachusetts communities in the past 12 years. Deal with polls and their pals and it is exhausting work but I thrive on it.... Regards, Phil."

A steady stream of the faithful make the trek to Hanover. Our operative who peeks over the shoulders of '23s who register at the Inn, and flashes us their names, has observed the following men and wives up there this spring: Nick Bernard, the Ray Barkers, JimBroe, the Vic Cannons, Bob Chaloner, the Freddy Clarks, Frank Donovan (a regular), Ralph Emerson (all the way from Mansfield, O.), Sidney J. and Alice Flanigan, GeorgeFerguson, Carl Gray, Bill Gates, Henry Hudson, Pete Jones, and the madame, the WadeKepners, Stuie Knight, Jim Landauer and Mrs. L., the Art Littles, Joe Lombardi, PaulMcKown (all the way from San Francisco, the Henry M'oores, the Lew Putnams, the CharlieRices, the Sargents, Joe Schiffenhaus, the BillWelches, Lee and Honey Young and the Charley Zimmermans.

Roy and Adeline Height hang out at 410 Central Ave., Stelton, N. J. Their son Bob is about 21 now, and daughter Sara will be 15 before very long. Fresh out of College, Roy was a salesman for Geo. Sully & Co., N. Y„ Sefton Mfg. Co., Lancaster, Pa., and Container Corp. His next stint was with the Texas Co., as salesman and supervisor. For the past 12 years he has been the R. L. in R. F. and R. L. Height, officing in New Brunswick, N. J., and selling his head off, along with a lot of time devoted to the Lions Club and various other community interests, as well as to all kinds of Dartmouth and Class activities.

We have the following intelligence re: Dwight Keef to transmit: He handles methods work on personnel, and payroll problems, for the N. Y. Telephone Co. He has been with the telephone people for 20 years, before that trying his hand at teaching at Pembroke Academy, and at the Rutherford, N. J. high school. He was headmaster of the high school at Raymond, N. H., for a piece. Dwight married Marion Halladay in 1925, and the Keefs have a son Dwight Jr., born in 1932. We're glad to hear he is getting along fine, because, personally, we've always wondered how he ever managed to survive the horrors of the year he spent in the company of roommates Short and Sollitl!

It is with sadness that we have to inform the Class of the death, April 5, 1951, of JamesA. Galletly. The In Memoriam section of an issue of this MAGAZINE in the near future will contain an article about Jim and his passing. His name will be inscribed on a 1923 book- plate in an acquisition of the Baker Library to be provided by the Dartmouth 1923 Memorial Book Fund.
