On October 1, 16 members o£ the Long Island Association executive committee assembled in Al Mark's rumpus room in Great Neck to discuss plans for coming events and to hear a round-up report of a very successful dinner and" freshman reception held on September 9 at the Hempstead Golf Club, where 24 freshmen plus parents helped to swell the total attendance to more than 150 people.
This was the first year that ladies were invited to our annual dinner and from the comments that ensued it appears that they have carved a permanent niche for them- selves at future gatherings. To put it mildly, they gave a definite lift to the party. EdRedman '06 and Rolie Morton '34 honored us with their presence as representatives of the New York Club and the Westchester Club.
Myles Lane '28, Federal District Attorney, was our guest of honor for the evening. In accepting our "Tomahawk" award for outstanding public service, Myles brought back many nostalgic memories of football under Jess Hawley's regime. Among those mentioned on the famous team in the fall of 1925 was Bob McPha.il, the quarterback. Many of us were saddened a week or so later to read in the New York Times of Bob's death.
AI Foley '2O polished off the evening with one of his delightful talks about the Hanover scene. The freshmen and their parents got a big kick out of Al's humorous insight into some of the problems facing them.
