Indications that your reporter is new at this game will continue to pop up, we have no doubt. It appears that topical matters must be treated gingerly, with as many hedges as the pollsters invented this year. A prime example appeared in this column last month (written around the first of October) when we exhorted you all to register and vote, and the great message came ringing into your home while Adlai was gladly running Illinois again and Ike was liking Bobby Jones' backyard (maybe even later you see how this topical thing can trap the unwary?). Glad you did get out to register and vote, though, and that the American Heritage Foundation and cooperating citizenry didn't miss the assist here.
Two manpower matters it seems safe to report: George Evans Gordon was born July 7 at Bethesda, Md., pleasing Earle and Charlotte very much; and Thomas Sumner Lord was happily found under a sizeable cabbage leaf by Ned and Anne on September 9, weighing 10 Ib„ 3½ oz. While this would seem no time for Ned to be unemployed, he writes that he is no longer assistant to the V. P. at Associated Transport, Inc., in New York but is planning to enter business for himself. Maybe some of you who have traffic problems in your business can now get some first-class advice from an expert.
Charlie Palmer sends The Hollywood Reporter of November 4 which states that RobertGuggenheim has been named general manager of Major Television Productions, video film distributors with coast headquarters on the RKO-Path6 lot. Bob will divide his time between the Coast and Major's home office in New York.
Ernie Earley 18 reports from The New YorkTimes of October 18 that "William T. Okie. V.P. of J. M. Mathes agency, has been elected! to Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Junior Achievements, Inc." The name intrigues us, Ted —leave us hear more about its aims, functions, etc.
Norm and Betty Crabtree now live in our area and we have seen them several times, although not yet in their new house. Norm works for Carborundum in Niagara Falls, and Betty takes care of their two nice boys, onemedium sized dog and one tremendous St. Bernard who is alleged to be the runt of hislitter.
The New Hampshire Sunday News of September 28, in a big pictorialized spread about Proctor Academy at Andover, has quite a piece about Senior Master Roland W. Burbank complete with picture of Ro in fireman's helmet sitting confidently on a hydrant infront of a pumper. Seems Ro is one of the Andover deputy fire wardens and directs the school forest fire fighting program which has already paid dividends to the State of New Hampshire in several bad fires. Ro and hiswife, who is the academy librarian, this summer completed a 50-day canoe trip through 600 miles of Canadian wilderness to Hudson's Bay. They are believed to be the first white man and woman to make this trip without a guide.
And now, a good Christmas to all of you (this job certainly saves on Christmas cards!),, and a special holly wreath to all the following contributors to the 1952 Alumni Fund!
