Once a year this MAGAZINE devotes a great part of its pages to publicize gratefully to the general reading clientele the host of contributors to its last Alumni Fund Drive. Without dwelling on any of the oft-repeated aspects of this worthy cause, we merely desire to publicly acknowledge here the work done by Al Bryant and his 30 assistant agents. They deserve a vote of thanks for their voluntary contribution of time and effort in leading our class to assume its portion of financial support each year not only for Dartmouth per se, but also for the perpetuation of liberal education.

We are pleased to report on the second annual gathering of the combined class cocktail party-luncheon for '36, '37, '38 at the Somerset Hotel in Boston before the HD game. A very excellent crowd again attended, bulk '38, and without anymore publicity than a note in this MAGAZINE plus word of mouth it appears as though the gathering will be a good annual "take" on a permanent basis. The usual Boston contingent consisting of the Carl Anions,Bryants, Bankarts, Hinmans, Handrahan,Devlin, were again supplemented by the CarlRays from New York and also this year by Aland Terry Mayer from Springfield. Biggest surprise was the unexpected appearance of Roily Kent whose vacation from his job as Sales Manager for General Motors in Mexico coincided. He gets three months and is making New York his headquarters but is getting around the country pretty well in that time. His wife Belem was visiting on the Cape that day so we did not have the pleasure of her company but Roily hopes to make Reunion next June and should have her along at that time. To prove it was a good party your correspondent witnessed a long argument going on outside the Somerset, along about the end of the first quarter of the game, between the Mayers and the Anions as to whose car they would take to the stadium ending up, as we understand, with both cars attending.

In the "small world" department the Mayers were also telling of visiting friends in Atlantic City last spring and while at a cocktail party where they knew no one, who should walk in but Bob Koury whom Al had not seen for 10 these many years. Bob is practicing law and lives in nearby Margate City.

The small fry department finds two newcomers - the Jerry Lows had a son Robert on October 4, and Ben and Barbara Cardozo had their second child, a daughter Ellen, on September 6.

The Hartford, Conn., papers carried a news item on Dr. George Andrews who, having just completed a three year residency at Yale in psychiatry, has been appointed to the courtesy staff and named in active charge of the Mental Hygiene Clinic at Hartford Hospital. George has opened an office at 725 Asylum Ave., and is living at present in Wethersfield.

Our class now has two Representatives in the Massachusetts legislature. Hal Putnam had no trouble being reelected from Needham in the recent election and Ernie April will be a newcomer from Salem, both on the Republican ticket. Ernie is now serving his third term in the Salem City Council and has been teaching at Danvers High School since 1942.

Gene Jones, a resident of Newton, Mass., was recently elected to the Board of Aldermen to fill a vacancy. He is President and owner of the North American Mfg. Co. of Natick, Mass. Albie Chester has been named foreman of the regular September Grand Jury in Albany, N. Y. (with a smashing good picture of him in the Hudson Star to accompany the article).

Due to the Fund news, this is all for this month. May we respectfully ask that you check your souls to see if you returned the penny reply cards that came out with the last newsletter? We wantum back.
