Timing its annual meeting to coincide with the celebration of Dartmouth Night at Hanover, the Dartmouth Club of Greater Lawrence met at the Andover Country Club on the evening of October 17. Jack McKallagat and his committee, who had made all the plans for the meeting, were inspired to try an experiment by inviting the wives and designating the whole affair as Ladies' Night. Twenty-seven members and their wives attended, which seemed like a goodly turnout, considering the fact that several of our members were spending the weekend in Hanover.
After an enjoyable lobster supper, PresidentGeorge Goodman opened the meeting by welcoming the wives, and asked for a discussion on the desirability of establishing a Lawrence Dartmouth Club Women's Auxiliary on a permanent basis. Although no definite action was voted, there seemed to be sufficient interest to indicate that some action might be taken along these lines during the coming year.
The nominating committee, consisting of Arthur Marsden, chairman; Dick Sullivan; and Ted Andrew Jr.; submitted the following names for officers: President George E.Goodman; Vice-President —Walter Tomlinson; Secretary Geoffrey Glendinning; Treasurer Albert Petteruto; Director for one year, Andrew Caffrey; Directors for three years, Alex Gibson and Ted Andrew Sr.
The slate was unanimously voted into office. President George Goodman called upon our honorary president, Louis S. Cox, who told us of some of his experiences at Hanover before the turn of the century in 1896.
Our chief speaker was Joe Sullivan '49 from Hanover, now a scout for the football squad. He gave us an up-to-the-minute report on the College in general and the condition and chances of the 1952 football team.
No formal social program had been planned for the remainder of the evening, the wives taking the opportunity to become acquainted with each other. Dr. Wholey entertained at the piano as long as there was anyone left to listen. All in all a good party!
