William Blake Clark '35, head football coach at Phillips Exeter Academy, and mathematics instructor as well, was the guest speaker when the Dartmouth College Club of Greater Lawrence met for its annual Dartmouth Night session in the Andover Country Club on October 16.

Clark proved to be the most fascinating speaker to come before the Massachusetts group for many years, as he charmed his listeners with athletic yarns embracing the Jackson Cannell-Earl (Red) Blaik football regimes. With characteristic honesty and simplicity, he stirred the imaginations of his listeners with a vivid recounting of his personal experiences in Hanover. He told the group why he chose Dartmouth College when several of the nation's leading institutions were extending "open arms," And he struck an intimate note when he explained why an alumnus will always love the "College on the hill" and anticipate longingly the days to come when his sons will be enrolled there. Bill, a three-letter man, who is remembered as the halfback in the 1934 game with Harvard who tied the game in the twilight seconds of the encounter by galloping half the length of the field for a touchdown, was applauded until the rafters shivered.

Although Clark informed the Greater Lawrence alumni that he nearly flunked public speaking while an undergraduate at Hanover (he never failed a single subject), he gave evidence of having traveled far since then and is warmly recommended to other alumni groups in the New England area as a top-drawer after-dinner speaker. Retired Supreme Court Justice Louis S. Cox '96 (in attendance at the meeting), who is considered one of the better after-dinner speakers in the Bay State, summed up the reaction of most when he described Bill as "the best yet."

In the annual election of officers, John J.McKallagat was elected president; Walter C.Tomlinson, vice president; Geoffrey. Glendinning, secretary; and Assistant District Attorney Albert Pettoruto, treasurer.

Honorary President Louis S. Cox presented Lawrence Public Librarian Richard J. Sullivan, past president oF the Dartmouth Club o£ Greater Lawrence, with a leather brief case. Mr. Sullivan left October 19 for Colombia, South America, where he will supervise the establishment of a public library system there under UNESCO. He was granted a fifteen-month leave of absence from the Lawrence public library. The program ended with selections from the Vocalaires, a 25-voice choral group.
