The following is taken from a letter from John Foster Meek '33, Treasurer of Dartmouth College:
Willard W. Eggleston Memorial
"This is in answer to your inquiry of November 28, 1951 concerning the above-named fund.
"Willard W. Eggleston was a graduate of Dartmouth in the Class of 1891. The fund was established as an accumulating fund on October 1, 1938, by a gift of $1,000 from Mrs. Alma L. Eggleston as a memorial to her husband. Four additional gifts to this fund, totaling $2,500, were made by Mrs. Eggleston from 1940 to 1946. These, together with accumulated income, brought the principal to its current total of $3,708.
"In 1942 Mrs. Eggleston directed that the income from the above fund be used to support prizes offered annually for treatises in Botany. Since that time, intermittent awards totaling $535 have been made from the income of the fund."
The Secretary feels that the publishing of the above is a belated tribute to the generosity of Mrs. Eggleston.
