With the new year well under way, the Alumni Association of Northern New Jersey is getting prepared for a busy, and what should be most interesting, season.
Headlining our list of events will be the presence of President Dickey at our annual dinner meeting, to be held on March 6 at the Hotel Surburban Ball Room in East Orange. Instead of having a large alumni dinner in New York City as in the past, Mr. Dickey is planning to circulate among the various alumni associations in the New York area, and this year he is going to be the guest of the Northern New Jersey Association. We are looking forward to having Mr. Dickey with us, and we hope that every alumnus in our area will join us on this special occasion.
Event Number 2 that will be of interest to a great many of our local alumni will be the coming concert of the Dartmouth Glee Club, which we have scheduled for April 3. This concert will be held in Montclair, although at the time of this writing your secretary is uncertain as to the exact hall to be used. We are fortunate in having an exceptionally fine Glee Club to represent Dartmouth. Those who have seen this organization perform know that its program is of the variety that gives the audience a fine combination of excellent singing and good fun and entertainment. We hope we can get a really fine turnout for this worthwhile evening.
Our third event will be held in May. This is our annual reception held for the accepted candidates of the coming freshman class of Dartmouth. At this event the alumni are represented by 'Lou Wilcox '23, his enrolment committee, and the Board of Governors of the Association. All accepted freshmen, and their fathers and mothers are invited. Dartmouth movies are shown, refreshments are served, and an open discussion is held in which the prospective freshmen and their parents are invited to ask any questions they wish about the College. The boys, their parents, and the local alumni all get a chance to know each other a little better, and everyone feels that this reception is a most important and worthwhile event.
Last but not least is our annual family picnic held some time in June. Alumni, wives, and children are all invited for a delightful, informal, and relaxing day at the farm of BillBlanchard '30. Plenty of food, drink, good company, and games always make for a wonderful picnic.
