Several events of importance to Dartmouth men have taken place in the Cleveland Club this winter.
On December 29, the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland held its annual luncheon for freshman applicants and their fathers. A total of 250 people, including many alumni, turned out for the occasion. Eddie Chamberlain '36 came from Hanover to be the speaker. Other speakers included Ray Barker '23, alumni Council representative from the Cleveland area; and Hal Newell '41, Chairman of the Cleveland Interviewing Committee. Al Hutton '41 was in charge of arrangements for the event.
On January 31 and February 1, the Alumni Council met in Cleveland. In addition to Council members, the following representatives of the College were present: President Dickey; Bill McCarter, Director of Athletics; Sid Hay ward, Secretary of the College; Al Dickerson, Director of Admissions; Eddie Chamberlain, Executive Officer of the College; George Colton, Executive Secretary of the Dartmouth Development Council; Professor Robert McKennan, Faculty Representative on the Alumni Council; Nick Sandoe, Executive Secretary of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund; and Ross Gamble, Associate, Dartmouth Development Council.
In connection with the meeting of the Alumni Council, several meetings sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland were held. On January 31, there was a luncheon at the Statler Hotel for high school and secondary school principals in the greater Cleveland area. At this meeting Lou Weitz '35, chairman of the Schools committee of the Cleveland Club, presided, and Al Dickerson and President Dickey discussed admission problems with these principals.
On Thursday evening, the officers of the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland and past presidents of that Club gave a cocktail party at the Union Club for representatives of the College and members of the Alumni Council. Our thanks go to Ray Barker for arranging this affair.
On Friday evening, the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland held its annual banquet which was attended by approximately 130 alumni from the Cleveland area, as Well as by representatives of the College and members of the Alumni Council. Fletch Andrews '16 was toastmaster of the affair, and the principal speaker was President Dickey, who spoke on the College and its purpose.
