Death seems to have taken heavy toll of our Class during the summer. Soon after Sliver Rice and his wife left Hanover last May, after the annual meeting of class officers, Mrs. Rice died suddenly. This indeed was a tragic blow to Sliver. Not long after this sudden death, I received a letter from him, which I quote herein.
"I am in the throes of getting out of our apartment but want to acknowledge your letter with check enclosed.
"My daughter-in-law came up from Bloomfield (where I had been ten days) with me on Monday and I expect Winthrop and his wife later today from Syracuse.
"Stuff will be shipped to each of the boys. I expect to be with Foster for the present.
"Thank you for your check and for the invitation to visit you. Being alone now, I won't be driving around very much. Just one of the ways I'll miss Jessie. After June 15, my address will be 35 Morse Avenue, Bloomfield, N. J."
Very recently classmate John Lord called at my home in Hartford. It was a pleasure indeed to see him again, after a lapse of too many years. He was one of a family reunion taking place in Hanover and so could spend only a few minutes. He seemed in good health and still practices his profession (the law).
You will find the notice of the death of our classmate Arthur Bugbee in this issue of the MAGAZINE. By the way, "Bug" was the first man of the Class of '95 to marry.
