More than 100 Dartmouth alumni, undergraduates, prospective students and a number of fathers gathered at a most successful midwinter meeting at the Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose on Sunday afternoon, December 28.

The principal speaker, Arthur H. Kiendl Jr., Assistant Dean of Dartmouth College, was introduced by the president of the Melrose Dartmouth Club for this area, William H.Main. Dean Kiendl gave an interesting description of present conditions at the College, and answered many questions dealing with scholarships and general registration matters.

Two feature motion pictures in color were shown. One was in sound, and described the first two weeks' experiences of an entering freshman. The other film, "Dartmouth Outof-Doors," followed a short talk by Frank E.Rowe '91 of Winchester. He told of humorous incidents in the Nineties. One was the first public announcement of how a donkey got onto the stage in Dartmouth Hall, the night when a bashful senior had to do the regular stint of those days and make a public speech.

From Mr. Rowe to a freshman present, classes at the meeting covered a span of 66 years. Schoolboys from the area were given the names of alumni in their own towns who would be glad to answer questions concerning Dartmouth. They are, for Melrose, HenryHughes '44; Winchester, George B. Redding 29; Medford, Walter Barnard '24; Reading, Edward Halligan '33; Stoneham, Winston N.Prescott '25; Maiden, F. Champlin WebsterJr. '28; and Wakefield, Allen Foster '45.

A social hour with doughnuts, coffee and cider followed the meeting. An attendance committee of 14 members had James V. Garvey '38, as chairman. Registration of members, boys, and fathers was in charge of Raymond Sault '17, assisted by Bradford Jones '46. Refreshments were served by Gilbert Tricco '47, and assistants.

The enrollment committee, headed by JohnR. Taylor Jr. '39, performed a well-organized task with credit and with results. Thirty-three school boys from ten towns were registered.

U.S. CONGRESSMAN: Edgar W. Hiestand 'lO, who is in Washington as the newly-elected Congressman from California's 21st District, was guest of honor at a cocktail party given for him by the Dartmouth Club of Southern California.
