Three dual meets for the Dartmouth swimming team have gone by since the last report in these columns, with the Big Green defeating Springfield 52-32, but losing to Navy 48-36 and to Princeton by a scant 43-41 score. However, several new records have been set which are worthy of note. In the Princeton meet sophomore freestyler John Glover tied the College record in the 50-yard event with a time of 23:4 and he went on to miss tying the 100-yard freestyle record by one-tenth of a second. Earlier Glover had set a new Spaulding Pool record in the 150-yard individual medley with a time of 1:37.5, but Princeton's Jack Mayes shattered this mark with a blazing time of 1:36 for the event. Another College record fell in the meet with Springfield when Dartmouth's Neil Bersch captured the 200-yard back- stroke in the time of 2:20.1.
In the most recent meet with Princeton, the Big Green threw a real scare into the Tigers who were undefeated in six straight dual meets. Going into the 440 freestyle event, the scoring was all even, but the Tigers put men in first and second place in this event to clinch the meet. Individual winners for Dartmouth were Captain Chuck Luker in the 200-yard freestyle, John Glover in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, John Wolfer in the dive, Neil Bersch in the backstroke and the relay team of Glover, Luker, Buck and Heyn in the 400-yard relay.
Three dual meets against Penn, Brown and Columbia plus the Eastern and NCAA meets remain on the Big Green swimming schedule. Coach Karl Michael's team has been making steady improvement and should do well in all of them.
