As you read these printed words, wherever you are, the May flowers may be blooming. But for the sake of the record, you may be sure that the month of March more than supplied the necessary moisture for same in the New England area. Eleven inches of rain, an all-time Weather Bureau record, was recorded in Boston during the month of March and it certainly is true that Hanover and environs did not fare much better, or worse, whatever your point of view may be. From your Secretary's armchair point of view, it at least can be said that we were fortunate the rain was not snow.

A recent meeting with Fred Scribner, who is a Republican National Committeeman from the State of Maine and general counsel for the Republican National Committee, brought forth the news that Red Alcorn had been elected in February to membership on the Republican National Committee, succeeding former Governor Shannon. Red has long been active in Republican circles in the Nutmeg State, and this recent post attests to the esteem in which he is held by his fellow Republicans in that state.... Bill Blanchard is probably only a year behind Fred and Red in his political achievements. During February Bill announced his candidacy for membership on the New Jersey State Republic Committee at the April Primary Election. Bill was seeking the seat from Morris County. Bill is now Chairman of the Harding Township Planning Board and was recently selected as Chairman of Republicans for Better Government, a group devoted to unity and improvement of the Republican Party in New Jersey. Bill's political activities are definitely a sideline from his busy business life. He is President of Wm. L. Blanchard Co., a Newark contracting firm, is a director of the Morristown Trust Company, a director of the Bradford Savings & Loan Association, a trustee of the Morristown Area Red Cross, the Hospital of St. Barnabas For Women and Children, and a trustee of the Boys' Club of Newark.

The resignation of the merchandise administrator of Macy's in New York City resulted in further promotion and responsibility for Kirt "Pooch" Meyer, who has been vice president in charge of women's accessories. Effective the middle of March, Pooch assumed responsibility for the candy, groceries, delicatessen, bake shop, stationery and typewriter, wines and liquors, radio and television, records and pianos and the meat departments, as well as retaining the notions, women's hosiery, women's gloves, umbrellas, fine jewelry and jewelry brokerage departments from his former responsibilities.... Chuck Kimball, who was with us in Hanover for only two years, has recently been appointed Manager of all International Business Machines sales and services in the Akron, 0., area. Chuck has established an enviable record with IBM. He joined the organization in Pittsburgh in 1932; was electric account machine manager in the Johnstown office from 1937 to 1946 and held the same position in the Youngstown office since the latter date. Chuck qualified nine times for membership in the IBM annual sales honor organization, the Hundred Percent Club At the March 4 Annual Dinner of the Alumni Association of Boston the 1930 delegation included Frank Leahy, Red Doherty, Rollie Booma, Ed Butterworth, JackFitzpatrick, Dick Barnard and your Secretary.

News of the younger generation of the 1930 family includes the announcement made of the engagement of Miss Barbara Ann Olsen of Bronxville, N. Y., to Nels Rockefeller's oldest son, Rodman C., who is a member of the Class of 1954.

It is with the deepest regret that we announce the deaths of Robert L. Billings on February 26, 1953, and of Clarence R. Chase on March 29, 1953. Obituary notices will appear in the In Memoriam section of the Magazine.
