Since it was decided not to schedule a baseball game for Commencement weekend, the formal athletic schedules came to an end on May go when the Dartmouth baseball team lost to Vermont by a 5-0 score.
Elsewhere in this sports section will be found a complete tabulation of how the Dartmouth varsity and freshman teams fared during 1952-53. Both the varsity and freshman teams came up with slightly better than average records, the varsity teams winning 52% of their contests and the freshmen 59% of their contests. The figures on the whole, however, are lower than they have been in recent years and would generally point up two facts which Dartmouth athletic officials have been aware of for some time. The first is that Dartmouth does not seem to be getting as many athletes as in earlier years and, secondly, the competition both on the playing fields and in the recruiting field is becoming increasingly keen.
In this report the last until the October issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE —we shall sketch briefly the happenings in spring sports in late May, take a brief look at the football prospects, and catch up on some of the minor sports notes.
