Wright and Martha Hugus became grandparents with the birth of Stephanie Hugus, daughter of Wright Jr. and Betty, last March. Judge is still playing tennis, figuring that JackNelson, Marc Wright and Mose Linscott are practicing for June 1958.
Stephen S. Jewett, son of T. D. and MarianJewett of Laconia and Mary Fitzgerald of Tilton, N. H., were married in Tilton on May 8 at 10 o'clock, and a wedding breakfast and reception followed the ceremony at the Winnisquam House. Steve graduated from Dartmouth, Tuck and Suffolk Law Schools. Mary attended Mount Saint Mary College and New Hampshire University and for the past three years has been hostess with Capital Air Lines at Washington, D. C.
John Conant, son of Bob and Mildred Conant, before graduation in June from U.V.M., served as steward in the dining hall and closed the season with a handsome profit. He is to be associated with Shell 0il. . . . Dick Avery, CapAvery's son, also graduated from U.V.M. and will join the Aetna force this summer.
Bill Pierce's Arthur finished his freshman year in Hanover and young Bill Bronk completed his third year, to graduate in 1955.
Harv McClary came East in June to enter his daughter Connie in the Powers Model School in New York, and go with Bill Towler to Hanover for the 1913 informal reunion. T. D. and Marian Jewett came from Laconia and Wilkins had been in Hanover for the Alumni Council meeting. Bob Conant, HarryFrench, Fred Page and Roy Maloney and families were the only others in town for this offyear reunion. With the Pres. and Sec. present, we had a class meeting in the Motel Room of McClary-Towler.
Think how conditions change as the years go by - Line Wilson, who retires from the Alumni Council this year, has been the oldest man on the Council for 1953-54.
Lloyd Riford's son's wife, Mrs. L. S. Riford Jr., designs clothes for the 1954 young lady in the ancient class-room of a schoolhouse built in 1780, now converted to a workshop studio, on the Riford farm, two miles west of Auburn, N. Y. Here the can-can petticoats first bearing the Sooki label were made. Her daughter Sooki is her inspiration for the designs, says the Cornell Univ. graduate. "All Sooki designs are completely washable and button all the way down the back for easy ironing and dressing."
Dutch Barend's firm, the James MacLaren Co., where Dutch has spent 34 years, has recently made him a director. His son Howard Jr. lives about twenty miles from Buckingham, Quebec, in Ottawa, and he has three youngsters, the youngest named Howard III. Dutch and Ottilia are coming down to Hanover next October - that should be a celebration.
Mrs. Lydia Annandale Jolliffe and DonaldL. King were married on June 22, at Wolfeboro, N. H. After October 20 they will be at home in Wolfeboro, for Don is retiring from his duties at St. Paul School, in Concord, N. H.
Stephen Fifield Perry, the second grandson and 5th grandchild of Gus and Alice Perry, who now live in Brandon, Vt., on R.D. #2 was born in Hanover. Nathaniel and Gail Perry are the parents. Peter S. Perry began his work on July 5 as speech therapist in the speech clinic of the Iowa Hospital School for severely handicapped children, part of the Medical Center of the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, Ia.
Tom Sullivan has been hospitalized with pneumonia at the U.S. Vets Hospital, Jamaica Plain, in Ward 4-B since the first of April. His recovery is slow and he says he has to stay there for awhile. Dick '50 is an insurance broker in New York City, married and living in Brooklyn; Bob graduated from N. E. University on June 27 this year and Virginia is still with the Western Union Telephone Co. and lives at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Porter Warren announce the marriage of their daughter Harriet Howe to Lt. Courtlen Price Hamlett on June 8, at Raton, New Mexico. Their address now Hq. and Hq. Battery, 847th F. A. Battalion, Camp Carson, Colo. Harriet is a captain in the Women's Medical Specialty Corps, in charge of the Occupational Therapy department at Camp Carson.... Janet Warren, who was with Pop at the 35th Reunion, all will remember, is Mrs. Alan P. White, now living in Frankfurt, Germany, and has two children, Chris and Steve. Alan is with the Overseas Dept. of National Defense. John Warren is teaching math at St. Johnsbury Academy, St. Johnsbury, Vt. His wife is the former Nancy Hellwig of New York and graduated from Bennington College. They have one son David. Pop retires in August 1955 and plans first to visit Janet and family in Germany.
