The Dartmouth Club of Baltimore got off to a fast start this year with three very important functions in less than a month.
On Wednesday, September 8, we had a noon send-off luncheon for the Maryland boys accepted into this year's freshman class. On Saturday, September 11, we had a marvelous Club picnic at Wellcome Farms, the home of Leon Loeb '27, and on Friday, October 1, we celebrated Dartmouth Night!
While much of the latter function was devoted to the tremendously important McCarthy-Hicks Foundation (about which de- tails in this and later issues of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE), the instrument of F. Jordan McCarthy '26, certainly the merry portion was the handiwork of J. B. Mclntyre '01. Mac, who won his letter in bicycle riding in 1898, kept his audience laughing heartily as he spoke of horse and buggy rides to Lebanon, coal stoves in student rooms, and of his classmate Hoppy, garbed in the turtle neck sweater of the era, not showing at the time any certainty he'd later rise to greatness.
