December 1954 SAMUEL E. CUTLER JR., RODNEY A. WALSER

Six more months to go! Got those plans made? Don't wait too long or it'll be too late. By the way, if you are sure of attending, it would be a great help to your chairman if you would send along a postcard noting that fact to Cliff Jordan or Jack Gile, 101 Crosby Hall, Hanover. Include, also, the number of your party: wife, children, etc. They can use this information to make tentative plans more definite. Regular reunion material, with return postcards and such, will, of course, be forthcoming, but a little preview is most illuminating to the behind-the-scenes planners.

Class Treasurer Rod Walser reports an excellent response to the class dues campaign but mentions that things have tapered off in the last month. Don't forget Rod, for the extra capital, if any, collected in this class drive will be applied to the reunion tax, thereby benefiting all. And even if you find it impossible to attend reunion, you'll have the MAGAZINE, through which to keep track of all class doings. A bargain anyway you figure it.

If my last month's effort seemed overly dramatic, I apologize. Despite the tenor of the column, I was not seriously contemplating suicide, only giving vent to some sort of a frustrated muse which occasionally breaks through my ordinarily calm demeanor. And although the cupboard was bare then, it has since been replenished so that I have all sorts of statistics, vital and not so, to pass along to you. With no more ado, here you are.

Jack Lothrop sends a long and interesting account of his association with Columbia Records. Jack is the manager of a new department for that firm, and seems to be making quite a name for himself in the record business. His associates number several other Dartmouth men, including the president of the company. Also included in this most welcome report was Jack's seeing Vince Malahan and Jim Wilson quite frequently. Vince is with the New York Times, while Jim is teaching in the Music Department at Rutgers.

If you're in the vicinity of Camp Lejune, N. C., drop in and see Capt. George Merrill, Company Commander, B Company, 8th Engineers, for there he lives with his wife Barbara, son Bobby, now 6, and daughter Judy, 4. The Merrills hope to be there for two years or so before being moved somewhere else. Hope so, too. Moving constantly is no fun. With thanks to his father who so kindly took the time and effort to send this information along, we find that Al Foster is now in Toronto, Ontario, associated with a real estate firm there, and extremely enthusiastic over life in Canada.

Dr. Dave Kirkpatrick's new office in Meadville, Pa., is now open for business, so if any of you are suffering from internal disorders and are in the vicinity, you might drop in. Don't guarantee a free diagnosis, but you can have a pleasant chat. Another doctor, Thurston Carpenter, who, along with WinBurbank and Bill Freese make up most of Pittsfield, N. H.'s population (the three families total fifteen, excluding pets) reports a stranger in town, one Richard H. Southwick, who paid a surprise visit awhile back. Al Mc-Aliley is still assistant managing director at New Britain General Hospital, although he reports the possibility of a move in the foreseeable future. Jim Doole's arm is still holding out (whose wouldn't in that warm Hawaiian air?) and so he spent the summer playing Pro ball in Japan with the Tahahasi Unions of the Pacific League. Still likes hulaland. Hope you can make it to reunion, Jim.

Wah-Hoo-Waaaaaaaas: Bob Samilson, still at Presbyterian Hospital, N.Y.C., in orthopedic surgery, has added another to the evergrowing brood. This is a redhead, Leslie, born last September 2. Bob also crossed paths with Ed Wilson when both delivered papers at an orthopedic meeting at the New York Academy of Medicine. Bob Tinell's wife Margaret sends a welcome note, announcing, among other things, another member of the family. This is Barbara Lee, born while the Tineils were on vacation in Maine, and thus a real New Englander. Bob, incidentally, is heading this year's Community Chest Drive in Cresskill, N. J. Flash! ... from Marilyn and George Ehinger, the announcement of the birth of their first offspring, Richard Freeman, on September 17. Hearty congratulations to all! Flash again! ... from Bob Fisher in Scarsdale, N. Y., comes word of another first-born, and also a boy, Robert P. Fisher Jr., born likewise in September, but on the 12th. This should rate more than a line or two, but that's all the information I have.

George "Shorty" Pierce gets this month's green bouquet for production. After two very charming, attractive daughters, George and Allon have broken into the masculine ranks with Bruce Stratton, born October 13. Hooray! Orchids also to Molly and Barney Oldfield for the birth on September 15 of Mary Ellen. Says Molly, "We'll call her Molly for the sake of confusion." They're also reunion bound come June.

Short notes from both Murray Sams and Bill Merrill indicate that they have already made plans to attend our Titanic Tenth. How about you?

A correction on October's column.... A lanBuchsbaum is teaching at Middleboro (Mass.) High School rather than Brockton. My "punch" line on Rocky has now been "knocked silly." Sounded pretty good at the time.

Lastly, the following oh-so-lucky ones have found their way back to the Hanover Plain in the last few months, some with wives, some singly. Frank Edwards, Ed Riley, Jack Lothrop, Kurt Konigsbacher, Frank Hutchins,John McC.auley, and John Jorgensen.

See you next year! Don't forget... class dues, reunion postcard, New York luncheon, me!

Merry Christmas!
