Shorn of prologue, foreword, preface, and introduction, this month's column reads as follows: Jack Prentice has been named controller of Hupp Corporation's Easy Appliance Division. Associated with Hupp since 1948, Jack served as procedures analyst and office manager with the Perfection Stove Company, now a Hupp division. In 1956 he was named controller of Hupp International Division. Residence: 3875 Princeton Blvd., South Euclid, Ohio.
John Truxal was awarded a Doctor of Engineering degree last June by Purdue University thus adding to the many laurels which John has accumulated since his graduation from Dartmouth. As you may remember, John's field is network synthesis and automatic control, and he is the author of the definitive text in this field, "Automatic Feedback Control System Synthesis." As an engineer, an educator, and an author, John has made many lasting contributions to his field. He has served as an officer of many professional societies and as a representative of the United States Department of State in Brazil, Venezuela, and Ecuador. And furthermore, he has found enough time to write or edit five books. Last June, Brown University announced the appointment of Dr. Bob Kugel as Professor of Medical Science. Bob, an authority in the field of mental retardation, was the director of the child development clinic and associate professor of pediatrics at the University of lowa. At Brown he will develop a research program in mental retardation and child development in connection with the University's new medical education program and its Institute for Health Sciences.
BOXING THE COMPASS: Ted Douglas named ABC vice-president and national director of sales for the radio network. TedMcCnim has been elected President of the Marin County (Calif.) Heart Association. Ted White is now associated with Draper, Sears & Co., stock brokers in Boston. Class Chairman Stan Newton and Class Secretary Sam Cutler rejoined the diapers and bottles division of Parenthood, Inc. this summer. In both cases the product was female, Stan's Donna Jean being delivered postpaid and weighing 9 lbs. 4 oz. on July 24, while Sam's Susan Edwards weighed in at 8 lbs., 3 oz. on August 9. How's that for class leadership? However, proud as I am, I am also in possession of a note from Mrs. Howie Sawyer who complains that nine little Indians keep her too busy to do much corresponding with me. I've got four, and I think life is hectic!
From Jim Wilson comes news of his activities on the music faculty of Douglass College (the women's division of Rutgers). Now an associate Professor, Jim is "very occupied with concerts, lectures, and writing (the July issue of 'Music Journal' carries an article on folksongs of the Miramichi Valley, Canada)." Jim is also working on a book in collaboration with Dr. Louise Manny, Canadian historian and folklorist, to be published sometime this year.
Bob "Lefty" Grunditz, late of Nabnasset, Mass., writes from his new home in Medford Lakes, N. J., where he represents G. S. Blakeslee & Co. of Chicago, producers of metal cleaning machinery. Bob has the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia area as his territory. Medford Lakes is, incidentally, about 15 miles east of Philadelphia. LewSteenken reports that he and Shirley are now permanent residents of Lake Worth, Fla., where Lew is connected with Richardson Homes, Inc., as building consultant and designer. He expects to receive his broker's license soon, for Richardson Homes sells real estate as well as insurance, mutual funds, and building projects.
Dave Joslyn writes that Dick Lewis has lately moved to San Diego as General Agent for Government Personal Mutual Insurance. Johnny Washburn, attorney-advisor in Office of Assistant Legal Advisor for United Nations Affairs, Office of the Legal Advisor, Department of State, United States of America, currently serving on the U.S. delegation to the United Nations General Assembly for the fourth time, and now executive officer for the Committee of Three for the U.S. Delegation, proudly reports the birth of his first child, Deana Davis Washburn, on October 9, 1962. How about that?
From Mott Brown '17, comes word of Dr. Jim Andrew of Columbus, Ohio. Mott has many good things to say of Jim, an occulist, as well as sending a picture of the hazards of sailing on the Scioto River. FredChamberlain is Director of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif. Bill Hardenstine now serves as Vice President - Sales for Overseas National Airways. If you know your office equipment, you know Shaw-Walker, and if you know Shaw-Walker in New York you should know Bob Bull, for Bob is district manager for that concern and lives at A-43 Hudson View Gardens, Pinehurst Ave. and 183rd Street, New York 33, N. Y. Although he's a hard man to keep track of, he's certainly an interesting one, for Jim MacPherson who last month was Vice-President of Vita Pakt Citrus Products of Covina, Calif., is now President of Party-Tyme Products of New York. And with residence at 6 Lost Lodge Road, Westport, Conn. And that is the move of the month.
