Tom Ham, Secretary of the Class of '96, was kind enough to write in that AustinCalef had fallen and broken his hip at his home in East Barrington, N. H. A Christmas card from Mrs. Calef advises that Austin was in the hospital for seven weeks. She writes, "He was brought home yesterday (December 14) and while he mustn't put weight on his limb for several weeks, he is much improved. He is very happy to be here and right now is enjoying his first cigar in seven weeks." Our wish is that Austin may enjoy many more cigars.
A card from Frank Pelton was received during the holidays. He wrote that he had been quite ill for three months. In September he, his wife and sister were vacationing in North Carolina, where Frank was taken sick and confined in bed for three weeks - threatened with pneumonia. He writes that he has not felt quite right since then, but is regaining his strength at home in Miami.
A letter from Clarence McKay reads as follows: "It may interest you to know that Miller, of our Class, was visiting his son, who is located here in Rochester. We were very glad to have Miller and his son up to our house for dinner and to make his acquaintance. His son, Col. E. G. Miller, is a very outstanding Army man, and holds a very important position. He is at the head of the Ordnance District, which comprises the whole of New York State outside of the metropolitan district. The contracts which he negotiates and, passes upon run into millions of dollars. He is not only a competent executive, but also a very congenial gentleman.
"We also had his father, our classmate, up to dinner a second time while he was here. He tells me he is 87 years of age and is apparently the oldest surviving member of our Class, due, I think, to the diet which he recommended in his talk at our 60th reunion."
Mac's letter was written October 13 and we are glad to have this information. We congratulate Dr. Miller on having such a distinguished son.
