"During the week of August 30 to September 5 I was a USA delegate to the NATO study conference in Copenhagen. This conference recommended the establishment of a Cultural Center of the West in order to promote international understanding and goodwill, particularly between members of the Atlantic Community. The International Board, appointed by the conference to control the project and insure a non-political development, designated me as the co-ordinator of the drive, and it is my task now to enlist support of all kinds. We need suggestions and imagination so that concrete steps may be planned and the very nature of the Center itself defined."
