Two or three years ago this month we began this stint, "At about this time each year ye sec sits down to his little Simplex Jr. about all set to fill up Widmayer's book for him, only to feel suddenly a strange kinship with the character now known as 'flat-top who, in the midst of a fancy full gainer off a high board, recalled that he had forgotten to fill the swimming pool." Of course we wouldn't use those same words again, but the thought is still there. This is evidently a period of prayer and fasting - even for ye sees, inc., few of whom have - ever been known to pray and none to fast.

However, we had the annual dinner here in Boston recently. President Dickey performed an act of levitation out of a bed of pain to attend and speak, and in faithful assembly from this famous class were doc. Win Watts, prof. Bill Reid, atty. Bob Rodman, insurance tyc. Harry Gilmore and ye sec. Unfortunately, the usual lassitude prevailed among our bawston brethren of '34 and that stalwart group who in their younger days were known to travel mile upon mile or stay up all night to attend anything, from a physiological con- vention at the Hollywood Inn to a discussion group on world affairs at Chez Gus in New Boston. Stayed away in large numbers. Somebody suggested that as in the New Testament story of the wedding dinner, our boys' excuse might be "I have taken unto myself a wife and cannot come." Can that be? Are we men or mice? Next question - and easier!

Organized crew came to Dartmouth .. . and if any further signs of spring were needed, on the campus Callaway homered for Phi Kappa Psi in baseball game.

VITAL STATISTICS Incomplete information, as yet, on death June 30, 1953, of Edward R. Cullen. We hope to have full obit next month. Ed, who was a Psi U, and who later graduated from U. of Chicago, was at Dartmouth a little over a year. On the happy side, a news item reports, "Perkins Bass, GOP candidate for Congress (N. H.) yesterday (Jan. 20) announced the enrolling of an additional recruit for Young Republicans for Bass. The new supporter, and fifth Bass child, is Nancy Foster Bass, age two days."

From Dave Hedges, who made the supreme sacrifice of sending in the info on rival loan shark (his words) Bob Goecke, which we used last month:

"At the A.B.A. convention last September in Washington we had a reunion which included Bob Lindstrom, Bob Sweeney, Bob Oare and myself. Not much news to pass on from this part of the country although, strangely enough, there are tour members of the class living in Houston Besides Goecke and myself, John Hoyt is a lawyer here and Johnny Wolf is with Drilling and Exploration Co Inc., one of our fine oil exploration concerns. BULEmbry and his charming wife, Lois, were here last May Dick Houck came through a couple of years ago 'but, generally speaking, I might as well be living in Pakistan for the number of '34s I get to see in Houston."

Just before press time, we received one of those giant postcards, postmarked Scottsdale, Ariz., which not only demonstrated the wonderful effects of that dry and clear climate on the otherwise natural attributes of a couple of honky tonk cuties, but also indicated that Al and Joan Marks have abandoned their seagoing activities long enough to venture inland to visit Squire Gihnore of Scottsdale. All of which points up what a wonderful invention the postcard is. Here we have something very interesting pictorially, or structurally as the case may be, a personal message from Al and Joan and Bill and Norma, and with no strain on the sender, an item for the mag. Try it sometime!

Just as we suspected when we were wiring down the upper case I key, this production is not going to push Bankart out into the middle of Campion's ad, so before we go we'd like to let you in on something.

Perhaps we are being brash, bumptious or even that adverb derived from the mother of your little boy's pup, to mention this, perhaps it is even classified info and we'll be in real trouble, but we feel it our duty as a class officer and holder of the sacred duty of reporting all the news that's printed to fit - the Alumni Fund is on. Let's Go!
