When winter winds die down and spring approaches, it is time for the annual Florida report. There are a multitude of '25ers who either live in our fastest growing large state or who leave the North for part of the year in the sunshine. Space limitations prevent complete coverage, but here is a report on some of the part-time residents.

Bill and Billee Jenkins drove from Cape Cod to Naples, stopping to say hello to Adeline and Doug Archibald in Jacksonville and Ruth and John Packard in Vero Beach on the way to a reunion in Delray Beach at Marian and Curt Abels' that included Fran and George Zahm, Haven and Eddie Blake, and Margo and Ben Werntz.

In Naples, the Southwest Florida Alumni Club held a dinner on March 16. The Jenkinses were present, along with Catherine and Bob Weinig, who live in Naples; Ross Beatty, who winters there; Dot and Larry Leavitt, who were vacationing at Burnt Store Marina near Punta Gorda; and Marian and Bun Levison, who came up from Marco Island.

Later in the month there was a special luncheon of the Sarasota Club. The Jenkinses and Leavitts were present there, as were Ginnie and George Newman, Francis and Ed Burns, Helen and Mott Garlock, Barbara and Don Hunt, Bill Bunting with a daughter and a granddaughter, and Velma and Rad Tanzer, who vacationed this winter at Crystal River instead of at their usual place near Gainesville. Mike McGean '49, secretary of the College, was the speaker, as he was at the Na ples meeting, and Priscilla Frechette, our first woman trustee, also addressed the gathering Don Moore, who lives in Venice, was absendue to illness.

Tubby Washburn, Ft. Myers, did not get to these meetings but did leave Florida in midwinter to make a special trip north to see a sick friend, a member of 1924, in Connecticut and take him to Hanover for a complete tour of the College.

The St. Petersburg Evening Independent carried a front-page column this winter about a book by Dick Colton called hove Those Vermonters. Dick drew on his Montpelier background to present a collection of typical North Country stories.

Shifting to California, Ted Geisel has received the National Association of Elementary School Principals first special award for distinguished service to children.

Dutch Schroedel writes from Gladwyne. Pa., that although 1981 was not a good year for him and Florence, they are feeling better starting out in 1982.

Ann Fleet, daughter of the late Speedy Fleet, is married to Clement Malin, secretary of the class of 1956, and they live in Weston. Conn. He reports that he and Ann were the only representatives, of 1956 to march in the rain in the Dartmouth Night parade in Hanover last fall.

In March we lost two stalwarts of our class, Ford Whelden and Frank Wallis. We will miss them. The sincere sympathy of all the class goes to Gertie Whelden and Ellie Wallis.
