REUNION!! certainly doesn't need continual plugging from this inept huckster so we're just going to add a little something to it in the hopes that through the rest of this column there may run what Professor McWhood might call an overtone - and then again that eminent mentor may henceforth be known as "Whirling Mac." For what it's worth, however, don't miss this REUNION!
Now you won't believe this, chum. And we don't blame you. Because we've had to read - ourselves - this last almost five years the moaning, groaning and serio-comic pleading that went on in this corner. About a little help in stringing together priceless pearl upon priceless pearl until C. A. Widmayer, Editor, with a satisfied smirk on his face, put the bloodied whip back in the corner for another month. And now we've not only lost a chance for a laurel wreath from the English Dept., but ye sec is going to have to confess to running out of space sufficient for all the material that bounced into the office from last fall's questionnaire.
You see, we got almost 300 returns. Which may not sound like much - but you have to check half the individual records in the class. As well as keep track of interesting little items. Like there are fourteen fellows out of that 300 who have five kids. And there are still seven stout-hearted men widely known for their unquestioned courage and swiftness of foot who have remained bachelors.
Likewise for instance, the Class Baby goes to Colgate and their are more class kids in Cornell than in Dartmouth.
Then there were a helluva lot of guys nice enough to jot down a little something extra — or who seemed to merit a mention in the column.
Bill Fischbach M. D., for instance, who with wife Muriel and three children lives in Cincinnati, where he has a practice as physician and surgeon in Carew Tower. Bill, in addition to three years of active service, is presently commanding officer of Naval Reserve Medical Company 4-16 in Cincinnati... another doc, Joe Furst, practising psychiatry in NYC, is married to the former Helen Burrows of Mt. Holyoke and is the author of two children, Diana and Jonathan, and a book The Neurotic, His Inner and Outer World . .. and PhilGlazer, selling Superba Cravats out of Memphis, Tenn., being unmarried, doesn't work his way very far down the sheet, but he at least sent in the questionnaire, which is more than a few other good tackles - and ends, too - did, whereby he merits this mention.
Dick Hardt, now living in Gladwyne, Pa., with wife Jean and two boys, is purchasing agent for Whitman Candy in Philadelphia. Dick was released from the Navy in November of 1953 as a commander, after thirteen years' duty Tom Hicks has branched out some. In addition to being VP of Merchants Steels and Supply Co. he is VP and treasurer of Ferrell-Hicks Chevrolet, Inc., both in Chicago. Tom married the former Jean Thackery of Northwestern and has three youngsters.... Ed Hill, for some years out of the country, is back to Needham, Mass., and with the Army Engineers in Boston. Ed, who is married to the former Barbara Keedy and the father of one boy, says, "We spent so much time in Puerto Rico, we have lots to catch up on when we returned to States; mostly material things, it seems, like new car, new house, and new friends." ... Dribblin Hank Kraszewski, a wheel in medical circles of New Britain, Conn., where he specializes in internal medicine, is married to the former Frances Shachna R.N., and they have two boys and a girl. Kras even adds, "Am completely gray haired, weigh 185 pounds, and have slowed down to a walk. Hah! Just don't try to cut around him unless you have a ticket in the stands.
Then George Kimball, Jamie King, and EdMoore contribute to our more current statistics, George with a boy at Cornell, Jamie with one boy each at Cornell and Dartmouth, and Ed with the aforementioned Class Baby, Ed III, at Colgate.... Art Leonard gets the newly coined Pholey Award for performance above and beyond in filling out questionnaires. Art is VP and Sec. of Rodgers Liquor Co., Inc., wholesale liquor distributors in Albany, N. Y., and was president in 1953-54 of the N. Y. State Wholesale Liquor Assoc. He duly records his marriage to the former Janet Allen, the births of four children, Arthur III, Loretta, David and William, and on the fifth line writes "Sorry, John - didn't know the questionnaire would have five spaces. He adds five years spent in the grades from private to major in the Ordnance and Adjutant General's Dept. of his uncle's army and then contributes,
"Have had a very enjoyable twenty years since graduation, mainly with above activities Play golf through the summer, swim some, and ski all winter, thereby managing to keep halfway in shape. Hope to make the 20th next June, to see many of the boys I have missed at football games over the years. See you then."
Which is how some unscrupulous secretary might get in a plug for REUNION! Of course, even with all this help, you can't neglect the regular monthly material... the AddressChanges, for instance, show that Major GeorgeH. Goss is now located at 4401 Elm St., Chevy Chase, Md Lucky Hanover Visitors recently have been Mr', and Mrs. James Darling and Jake Edwards And last month we dropped under the desk the note which reminded us that at the Boston Dartmouth Club Dinner were gathered round the festive board characters such as Dick Emerson, BobRodman, ye sec, Dr. Win Watts, Jack Corcoran, Nick Xanthaky, recently returned to Natick High School; and ye treas., Gilbert, was very much in evidence with an octet which put on a polished performance.
Then, of course, the papers of the nation provide us each month with our men of distinction ... election of Frank W. Parmelee Jr. as vice president in charge of foreign operations for the Toledo Scale Co. was announced on March 22. He has been serving as export sales manager for the last seven years. In his new capacity, Frank, recently returned from a two-month trip through South America and the West Indies, will be responsible for the administration of the company s activities in more than fifty countries throughout the world where Toledo Scale products are now being sold William L. Wilson, who as president of the New England Hospital Assembly directed the activities of this group over the past year, presided over the various official functions at the thirty-second annual meeting held in Boston, March 28-30.
Dr. Seymour B. Dunn, dean of Hobart College, Geneva, N. Y., has been appointed dean of Gettysburg College. He will assume the position September I. Sey has been dean at Hobart College since 1948 and is head of the history department there. . .. From Washington. the Republican committee on committees of the House of Representatives has chosen Perkins Bass, freshman legislator from the 2nd New Hampshire district, for a position on the banking and currency committee. From a New England viewpoint, this is probably the best committee assignment given to any of the fifteen new Republicans in the House. Perk, who is a savings bank trustee and has business experience through his law practice, will be on a committee which has jurisdiction over the small business activities of the House and of banking.... Appointment of GeorgeP. Stangle as Hartford general agent of the Manhattan Life Insurance Company is an- nounced by the company's home office in New York. He was formerly assistant general agent for Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Albany, N. Y. Previously, he was successively an agent, supervisor and then assistant general agent for Aetna in Chicago before moving to Albany in 1949.
Intending to go on with the questionnaires, we picked up one which declares that MikeJoseph, president and general manager of the D. W. Rogers department store in Greenwich, Conn., is married to the former Marion Leeds of Pembroke and they have two girls, Patricia and Linda. Mike's only other contribution to the general knowledge, other than his four long years from private to captain with the AA's with 35 months overseas, is "Twenty years go awfully fast."
So does the space we have to fill - when you help out ye sec. Which is what we started out saying, wasn't it? Shows you how a fellow can get confused.
But don't you get confused! You've got a few extra things to think about in the next month. The Alumni Fund and REUNION!! Don't miss either!
